Libobasquet Round 20: Leader Pichincha loses to Univ.Sucre

The Regular Season in Libobasquet just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Top ranked Pichincha (11-5) recorded its fifth loss on the court of fifth ranked Univ.Sucre on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Univ.Sucre 99-92. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pichincha. The best player for the winners was American forward Jesse Johnson (201-1995, college: EWC) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The other American import guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) chipped in 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American swingman Eric Lovett (196, college: FIU) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for the guests. Univ.Sucre (9-7) moved-up to third place, which they share with Atletico Nacional and San Simon. Defending champion Pichincha still keeps top position with five games lost.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked San Simon (9-7) against ninth ranked Leones (7-9) on Thursday night. Visiting San Simon was defeated by Leones in a tough game in Potosi 76-84. The former international point guard Martin Ochoa (185-1994) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Spencer Collins contributed with 23 points and 4 assists for the winners. Argentinian Rolando Vallejos (195-2000) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for San Simon. Leones moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Calero and Saracho. San Simon at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Univ.Sucre and Atletico Nacional.

Worth to mention a great performance of Roberto Orresta who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Adriano Barreras responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Carl A-Z have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Atletico Nacional lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Univ.Sucre and San Simon.

Rest of the games of round 20 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
CAN Oruro were defeated by La Paz in a road game 87-79. Saracho beat Calero at home 94-87. Leones lost to Carl A-Z on the opponent's court 73-87.
The best stats of 20th round was 17 points, 21 rebounds and 11 assists by Diego Romero of Carl A-Z.



La Paz - CAN Oruro 87-79

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked CAN Oruro (6-9) was defeated on the road by bottom-ranked La Paz (5-11) 87-79 on Tuesday. La Paz forced 20 CAN Oruro turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban center Dariel Maza (-1991) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Irin Stark (185-1989, college: STAC) who added 26 points and 5 assists during the contest. Argentinian forward Juan Martin Bello (200-1999) responded with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Jose Gil scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four CAN Oruro players scored in double figures. La Paz maintains tenth position with 5-11 record. Loser CAN Oruro dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost.

There was a small surprise in Oruro where eighth ranked Saracho (7-9) defeated 6th ranked Calero (7-9) 94-87 on Saturday. Saracho shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian point guard Alejo Traverso (179-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 assists and guard Cristhian Delgado (184-1993) who added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The former international point guard Celmar Alanes (180-1997) responded with 21 points and 6 assists and Argentinian power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Five Saracho and four Calero players scored in double figures. Calero's coach Matias Martinho rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saracho moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Calero and Leones.
