Libobasquet Round 16 (Regular Season): Leones beat CAN Oruro by one after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 16 in the Libobasquet took place in Oruro. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked CAN Oruro (9-8) to fourth ranked Leones (10-6) 75-74 in the game for the fourth place. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward TJ Robinson (203-1989, college: LBSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Argentinian Rolando Vallejos (195-2000) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Gonzalo Romero (196-1997) replied with 26 points and 6 rebounds for CAN Oruro. CAN Oruro's coach Ernesto Wright rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 10-6 record. CAN Oruro at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Leones are looking forward to face Carl A-Z (#7) in Oruro in the next round. CAN Oruro will play on the road against Pichincha and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Tarija Basquet (13-4) which hosted in their biggest opponent Pichincha (12-5). Third ranked Tarija Basquet managed to get a 8-point victory 85-77. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of Ecuadorian center Jordan Cardenas (206-1998, college: FNU, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds and Jamar Sandifer who added 17 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Axel Veizaga (182-1996) responded with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Tarija Basquet have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Pichincha at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost. Tarija Basquet will play against bottom-ranked La Paz (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pichincha will play against CAN Oruro (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Libobasquet top team - CAN Potosi (15-1) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat seventh ranked Carl A-Z (6-10) in Oruro 93-83. The winners were led by Milos Petkovic who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. CAN Potosi's coach David Pardo used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Roberto Orresta did not help to save the game for Carl A-Z. CAN Potosi maintains first position with 15-1 record. Loser Carl A-Z keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. CAN Potosi will meet at home Univ.Sucre (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Carl A-Z will play against Leones in Potosi and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Univ.Sucre smashed La Paz on the road 91-60. Kinwa won against Carl A-Z on its own court 89-81. Kinwa unfortunately lost to Univ.Sucre in a road game 87-89.



La Paz - Univ.Sucre 60-91

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Univ.Sucre (8-8) crushed on the road bottom-ranked La Paz (1-15) 91-60 on Monday. Univ.Sucre dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to La Paz's 32. They outrebounded La Paz 50-33 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import Omarayon Turner (196) supported him with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Washington is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Univ.Sucre players scored in double figures. Even 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds by American swingman Jonathan Greenfield (190, college: Lehman) did not help to save the game for La Paz. Point guard Sergio Herbas (-2003) added 17 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Univ.Sucre have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 8-8 record. La Paz lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. Univ.Sucre will meet league's leader CAN Potosi on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. La Paz will play against the league's second-placed Tarija Basquet (#2) and hope to win that game.
