Libobasquet Round 4 (Regular Season): Univ.Sucre edge Calero by three points

The most exciting game of round 4 in the Libobasquet took place in Potosi. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of bottom-ranked Calero (0-4) to third ranked Univ.Sucre (3-1) 95-92 on Wednesday evening. The former international swingman Rene Calvo (193-1993) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) chipped in 26 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Esteban Covarrubias (190-2001) produced 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Univ.Sucre maintains third position with 3-1 record having just three points less than leader Kinwa. Calero at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with CAN Oruro. Univ.Sucre are looking forward to face Leones (#4) in Potosi in the next round. Calero's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Potosi Leones.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Oruro: Carl A-Z (#5) and CAN Oruro (#7). CAN Oruro was defeated at home 75-87 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban guard Daniel Simon (185-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jesus Virhuez contributed with 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. point guard Sergio Herbas (-2003, agency: Gulf Coast Hoops) replied with 23 points and 8 assists for CAN Oruro. CAN Oruro's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Carl A-Z maintains fifth position with 2-3 record, which they share with Pichincha. CAN Oruro at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Calero. Carl A-Z will play against league's leader Kinwa in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. CAN Oruro will play against Calero (#7) in Potosi and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Samuel Valverde who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Kinwa's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Andres Trujillo responded with 20 points. Undefeated Kinwa (5-0) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Loser Pichincha keeps the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Carl A-Z. Kinwa will meet Carl A-Z (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Pichincha will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 4 Carl A-Z was crushed by CAN Potosi in a road game 97-72.

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Carl A-Z (2-3) was crushed on the road by third ranked CAN Potosi (4-1) 97-72 on Saturday. CAN Potosi forced 26 Carl A-Z turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Cristhian Camargo (194-1992) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 assists and Alan Castro (-2002) who added 22 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Jesus Virhuez responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and Cuban guard Daniel Simon (185-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. CAN Potosi have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Carl A-Z keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Pichincha. CAN Potosi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Carl A-Z will play against the league's leader Kinwa (#1) and hope to secure a win.
