Catanduva are new CNBF champions - Jan 22, 2010
Catanduva - Ourinhos 60:59

Catanduva dethroned Ourinhos in the third game of the CNBF championship series. Catanduva swept the series with the home win in the third encounter. The victory marked the first title in the history of Catanduva as they snapped Ourinhos triumphant strike. Gilmara Justino (185-C-81) became the hero of the game. She drained a late bucket that proved decisive in this one.
Ourinhos entered the game with their backs against the wall. They lost both home encounters and needed some change things drastically to stay alive in the series. The attitude seemed right as the visitors stormed into the encounter. Ourinhos grabbed a 24:18 lead ten minutes into the clash. Catanduva stopped the bleeding in the second frame. They adjusted defensively and limited their opponents to 12 points trimming the deficit at 4 points at halftime. Catanduva developed on their success as they denied the deficit in the third quarter. The teams entered the fourth quarter all tied at 47. Neither side was able to clear off as it all came down to the final seconds. Gilmara Justino proved the difference as she converted a late bucket after an offensive board that propelled Catanduva to the national title.
Gilmara Justino finished with 11 points for the winners. Palmira Marcal (178-G-84) added 10 points for Catanduva. Jucimara Dantas (193-C-78) responded with 14 points for Ourinhos. Micaela Jacintho (180-F-79) and Karen Gustavo (177-G-84) had 12 points apiece in the loss.
