Novo Basquete Brasil (2009)

In 2009 Campeonato Nacional de Basquete (organized by Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete) was replaced by the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), organized by the Liga Nacional de Basquete.
2009 was the only year when NBB was a single-year, which in all other seasons after that NBB played in double-year season format.

Flamengo clinch NBB crown - Jun 29, 2009

Flamengo clinched the title of the inaugural NBB championship. They defeated Universo/BRB in the dramatic final series. Marcelinho Machado (199-F/G-75, agency: Interperformances) knocked down 27 points to propel the Rio de Janeiro outfit to the decisive third win in the finals. Jefferson Antonio added 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Flamengo looked in control as they piled up a 6-point lead at halftime. Universo/BRB never surrendered but could not prevail against the determined hosts. Diego Pinheiro scored 21 points and pulled down 8 rebounds for Universo/BRB. Valtinho Silva notched 15 points in the losing effort.


Rosa Branca Team holds off Ubiratan Team in NBB All-Star Game - Mar 23, 2009

The newly created NBB League showed their high ambitions organizing a big All-Star Game show in Rio de Janeiro. The best performers were divided into two teams named after Brazilian basketball players.
The game was preceded by several contests. Fernando Fischer (190-F-81) of GRSA/Bauru won three-point shootout. The guard managed to earn 19 points in the final round. He overcame Arlindo Neto (188-G-86) of Lupo/Araraquara for the title. Julio Toledo (195-F-85) was the best in slam-dunk contest.
Finally the game time arrived. The teams clashed in front of more than 5o00 spectators at the Maracanazinho. Rosa Branca grabbed the lead early in the game and enjoyed a 7-point advantage after the starting frame. Ubiratan narrowed the margin early in the second period but could not hold on. Rosa Branca team surged ahead and piled up an 11-point lead at the interval. Marcelinho Machado (199-F/G-75, agency: Interperformances) finished the first half with 11 points. Rosa Branca maintained the pressure in the second half. Shamell Stallworth (197-F-80, agency: Interperformances, college: USF) stepped up with first-class performance in the second half and paved Rosa Branca Teams way to the victory. Winner/Limeiras import topscored with 26 points for Rosa Branca Team. Marquinhos Vinicius (207-F-84) contributed 23 points, while Duda Machado (197-F/G-82) banked 15 points for the winning team. Marcelinho Machado responded with 25 points for Ubiratan. Luiz Felipe (201-F-79) fired 16 points in the loss.
