NBB Round 36: No surprise as #1 Vivo/Franca defeat UNIFACISA

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

NBB top team - Vivo/Franca (28-3) managed to deliver another win on Tuesday. This time they beat sixth ranked UNIFACISA (17-11) in Sao Paulo 74-65. Worth to mention a quality performance of American guard David Jackson (190-1982, college: Penn St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 7 rebounds and international center Lucas Silva (208-1995) who added 15 points and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American-Panamanian point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-1989, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pro Sports) with 10 points and 8 rebounds. UNIFACISA's coach Cesar Guidetti rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vivo/Franca maintains first position with 28-3 record. UNIFACISA at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Victor Leal who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Grantham Gillard who recorded 23 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pato maintains tenth position with 12-19 record. Loser U.Corinthians keeps the sixteenth place with 21 games lost. Pato will meet at home Caxias do Sul (#11) in the next round. U.Corinthians will play against Paulistano (#7) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 36: U.Corinthians lost to Mogi on the opponent's court 75-85. Bottom-ranked Brasilia unfortunately lost to Paulistano in a home game 60-78. Pinheiros managed to beat Corinthians on the road 83-79. Rio Claro defeated Fortaleza on its own court 82-66. Caxias do Sul was smashed by Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes 86-65. Rio Claro won against UniFacisa at home 83-72.

Mogi - U.Corinthians 85-75

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 16th ranked U.Corinthians' (8-21) road loss to fifteenth ranked Mogi (10-21) 75-85 on Monday. Mogi looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Guilherme Lessa (178-1995) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 assists. Wesley Ferreira (200-1995) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Mogi players scored in double figures. Mogi's coach Danilo Padovani used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Luis Felipe Gruber (204-1985) who recorded 17 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Grantham Gillard (193-1997, college: Arkansas St.) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Very predictable result when seventh ranked Paulistano (16-15) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Brasilia (5-23) 78-60 on Monday. Paulistano have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 16-15 record. Loser Brasilia stay dead last with 23 lost games. Paulistano will meet U.Corinthians (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brasilia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Brasilia to the arena Cerrado.

Corinthians - Pinheiros 79-83

Not a big story in a game in Sao Paulo where 12th ranked Corinthians (10-21) was defeated by eighth ranked Pinheiros (14-15) 83-79 on Monday.
