LDB U20 Round 3: Caxias do Sul beat Coritiba by two after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 3 in the LDB U20 took place in Caxias do Sul. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of Coritiba (2-3) to Caxias do Sul (3-2) 63-61 in the game for the fifth place. Caxias do Sul forced 20 Coritiba turnovers. Strangely Coritiba outrebounded Caxias do Sul 40-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for guard Gabriel Santos (185-2001) who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Guard Elias Oliveira (189-2001) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Gabriel Soldi (202-2000) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for Coritiba. Coritiba's coach Fabio Pellanda rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Sao Paulo: Corinthians (#4) and Franca (#8). Corinthians (3-0) won against visiting Franca (1-2) 80-69. It was a great evening for forward Ludwig Agustinho (202-2001) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Dalaqua Almentra helped adding 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Reynan Santos (192-2004) with 30 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Franca's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
An interesting game for Cerrado (4-1) which hosted in Brasilia Botafogo (0-0). Cerrado had an easy win 84-60. It was an exceptional evening for Ruan Miranda who led the winners and scored 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Joao Belmiro came up with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Botafogo in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: winless Rio Claro lost to undefeated Paulistano on the road 47-81. Franca lost to Cearense on its own court 69-76. Corinthians managed to outperform Bauru in Sao Paulo 71-53. Vasco da Gama managed to beat Uniao Corinthians at home 94-78. Paulistano crushed Cearense on the opponent's court 87-46. Winless Rio Claro was beaten by Bauru in a home game 62-73.



Paulistano - Rio Claro 81-47

No shocking result in a game when Paulistano (3-0) crushed Rio Claro (0-3) in Sao Paulo 81-47 on Saturday. Paulistano made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game, while Rio Claro only scored six points from the stripe. They outrebounded Rio Claro 48-34 including 31 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for guard Matheus Silva (189-2001) who led the winners and scored 20 points. Swingman Anderson Barbosa (192-2000) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Paulistano players scored in double figures. Lukas Santos (201-2002) came up with 5 points and 5 rebounds and guard Luan Rodrigues (187-2002) added 11 points respectively for Rio Claro in the defeat.
