CBB Round 1: Praia lose to Cruzeiro

The Regular Season in CBB just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Praia at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Cruzeiro 83-66. Cruzeiro outrebounded Praia 42-28 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Matheus Leoni (187-2003) fired 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Jose Carlos (200-1997) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Raffael Mencarini (187-2001) produced 18 points (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Cruzeiro is looking forward to face Sorocabana at home in the next round. Praia will play against Sorocabana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game was played in Osasco. Osasco faced Araraquara. Host Osasco defeated guests from Araraquara 81-70. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Emanuel Matias (202-1999) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 9 rebounds. Paulinho Boracini contributed with 20 points for the winners. point guard Guilherme Santos (189-1997) answered with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for Araraquara. Araraquara's coach Fabio Apolinario rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Osasco will play against Brusque on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Araraquara will play against Brusque to get more than just one victory in their record.
An exciting game was played in Brusque. Brusque faced Blumenau. Host Brusque defeated guests from Blumenau 71-58. Lucas Campos stepped up and scored 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. At the losing side Leonardo Bispo responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brusque will meet at home Osasco in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Blumenau will play against Osasco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Pinda was crushed by Sorocabana in a road game 68-34. Araraquara smashed Vitoria at home 109-76. Winless Vitoria was destroyed by Osasco on the opponent's court 127-87. Cruzeiro outscored Pinda in a home game 94-70. Sorocabana lost to undefeated Santos on the road 66-73.
The best stats of 1st round was 8 points and 5 rebounds by Alexandre Goncalves of Santos.

Osasco - Araraquara 81-70

An exciting game was played in Osasco. Osasco faced Araraquara. Host Osasco defeated guests from Araraquara 81-70. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Emanuel Matias (202-1999) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 9 rebounds. There was a minor upset when Pinda was crushed on the road by Sorocabana 68-34 on Sunday. Sorocabana held Pinda to an opponent 24.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Sorocabana forced 24 Pinda turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Pinda's players. Leonardo Jacon (199-1996, college: Southeastern) stepped up and scored 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and point guard Adler Ribeiro (180-2000) chipped in 19 points. At the losing side point guard Pedro Rodrigues (175-2000) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds and forward Erik Jardim (198-1989) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sorocabana will meet Cruzeiro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pinda will play against Santos and hope to win that game.

Four Araraquara players scored in double figures. At the losing side Edu de Oliveira (195-1983, college: EOSC) responded with 26 points and 7 rebounds and Marcelo Roque (204-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Araraquara will meet Brusque on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vitoria will have a break next round.

Guard Dalaqua Almentra (182-2000) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) for the winners and naturalized Italian point guard Paulinho Boracini (183-1984) chipped in 25 points and 8 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). At the losing side guard Victor Pedreira (191-1996) responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Edu de Oliveira (195-1983, college: EOSC) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Dida Pereira (202-1992, college: Sequoias CC) stepped up and scored 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Alexandre Goncalves (198-1993) chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds. Santos' coach Daniel Correa Leque used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side point guard Beto Fagundes (188-2000) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and Leonardo Jacon (199-1996, college: Southeastern) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds.
