NBB Round 31: No surprise as #1 Vivo/Franca defeat Brasilia

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in NBB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

NBB top team - Vivo/Franca (31-0) managed to deliver another win on Tuesday. This time they beat fifteenth ranked Brasilia (7-23) 87-72. The game was mostly controlled by Vivo/Franca. Brasilia managed to win second period 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vivo/Franca forced 19 Brasilia turnovers. It was a great evening for international center Lucas Silva (208-1995) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. The former international power forward Lucas Mariano (208-1993) helped adding 16 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Douglas Dos Santos (201-1998) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Vivo/Franca have an impressive series of 31 victories in a row. They maintain first place with 31-0 record. Brasilia lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 23 games lost. They share it with Rio Claro. Vivo/Franca are looking forward to face league's second-placed Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Brasilia will have a break next round.
NBB top team - Vivo/Franca (31-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventeenth ranked Cerrado (5-24) in Brasilia 106-68. It was a quality performance for the former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Lucas Mariano accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Ruan Miranda (205-2001) came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Cerrado in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the 31th consecutive win for Vivo/Franca. They maintain first place with 31-0 record. Cerrado at the other side stay dead last with 24 lost games. Vivo/Franca will play against league's second-placed Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cerrado will play on the road against Pato (#13) in Pato Branco and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Sao Paulo between Caxias do Sul and Corinthians. Eleventh ranked Caxias do Sul (12-18) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked Corinthians (15-15). Caxias do Sul managed to escape with a 1-point win 76-75 on Monday evening. Humberto Silva fired 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Davaunta Thomas produced 17 points and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Caxias do Sul maintains eleventh place with 12-18 record. Loser Corinthians dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost. Caxias do Sul will meet higher ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Corinthians will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 31: Paulistano was destroyed by Minas on the opponent's court 105-70. Pinheiros managed to outperform Caxias do Sul in a home game 89-82. Paulistano recorded a loss to Flamengo on the road 83-70. UniFacisa defeated Minas on its own court 79-69. Brasilia was smashed by Pato Basquete in Pato Branco 91-64.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Fabricio Verissimo of Pato Basquete.



Minas - Paulistano 105-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Paulistano's (19-11) road loss to fourth ranked Minas (21-10) 70-105 on Monday. Minas shot 65.5 percent from the field and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Minas had a 26-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Minas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) fired 34 points (!!!) and 6 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners. The former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. Five Minas players scored in double figures. Gui Abreu (199-1999) produced 20 points and point guard Adyel Borges (188-2002) added 10 points respectively for lost side. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Minas maintains fourth place with 21-10 record. Loser Paulistano keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Minas will meet Fortaleza (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Paulistano will have a break next round.
