NBB Round 1 (Regular Season): Flamengo lose to Minas

The Regular Season in NBB just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Minas 87-70. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Flamengo's players. Argentinian guard Nicolas Copello (193-1992) stepped up and scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and forward Alexandre Paranhos (204-1992) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international guard Didi Louzada (195-1999) responded with 15 points. Minas are looking forward to face Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Flamengo will have a break next round.
Very significant was Corinthians' 84-72 road victory against Brasilia. The former international guard Caue Borges (187-1991) nailed 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Leonardo Demetrio accounted for 27 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) came up with 15 points and 4 assists for Brasilia in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Corinthians will play against Cerrado in Brasilia in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Brasilia will play at home against Pinheiros to get more than just one victory in their record.
Very important is a home loss of Botafogo against Minas on Saturday night. Host Botafogo was crushed by Minas in Rio de Janeiro 96-76. Alexandre Paranhos fired a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Matheusinho Brito produced 19 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for lost side. Minas will meet Vasco da Gama in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Botafogo will play against U.Corinthians in Santa Cruz do Sul and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: winless Pato lost to Flamengo on the opponent's court 71-84. Sesi Franca managed to outperform Sao Paulo in a home game 100-92. Pinheiros managed to beat Cerrado on the road 69-62.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by Lisandro Rasio of Pinheiros.

Flamengo - Pato 84-71

Rather expected game in Rio de Janeiro where Pato was defeated by Flamengo 84-71 on Sunday. Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (188-1989) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Hungarian Marko Filipovity (204-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. American point guard Nate Barnes (182-1990, college: ABU) produced 24 points and the former international Eduardo Sommer (205-1994) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Five Flamengo and four Pato players scored in double figures. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pato will play against Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Vivo/Franca used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Sao Paulo 100-92 on Saturday night. Vivo/Franca made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. International center Lucas Silva (208-1995) fired 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Marcio Santos (204-2002) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. The former international point guard Ricardo Fischer (183-1991) produced 27 points and center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-1987) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Vivo/Franca and four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Vivo/Franca's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Paulistano.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Argentinian Lisandro Rasio (198-1990) fired 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international Jimmy Oliveira (190-1990) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Guilherme Santos (189-1997) produced 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Matheus Silva (189-2001) added 11 points and 4 steals respectively for lost side.
