The most exciting game of round 22 in the NBB took place in Sao Paulo. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked UNIFACISA (18-12) to tenth ranked Corinthians (15-13) 86-85 on Saturday evening. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Elio Corazza (191-1989, college: Miami Dade CC) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 7 assists. American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. Bahamas David Nesbitt (203-1991, college: St.Thomas, FL) replied with 15 points and 9 rebounds for UniFacisa. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Corinthians have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Sao Jose. UniFacisa at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. Corinthians is looking forward to face U.Corinthians (#14) in Santa Cruz do Sul in the next round where they are favorite. UniFacisa will play on the road against Pinheiros (#12) in Sao Paulo and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Brasilia. Seventeenth ranked Botafogo (8-23) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 19th ranked Brasilia (4-24) 108-106 on Sunday evening. American guard Isaac Thornton (193-1991, college: Fairmont St.) scored 32 points to lead the charge for the winners and Jamaal Smith chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Botafogo's coach Miguel Palmier allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) responded with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!). Newly promoted Botafogo maintains seventeenth position with 8-23 record. Brasilia lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The visitors from Rio de Janeiro managed to secure only three-point victory 84-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Matheus Eugeniusz notched 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 17 points and 8 rebounds by Daniel Von Haydin did not help to save the game for Cerrado. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vasco da Gama have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Cerrado keeps the fifteenth position with 20 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Pinheiros beat Cearense in a home game 72-61. Paulistano lost to Pato on the road 73-83.



U.Corinthians - Bauru 89-97

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (19-10) beat 14th ranked U.Corinthians (10-18) in Santa Cruz do Sul 97-89 on Thursday. Bauru dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to U.Corinthians' 40. Anderson Rodrigues (207-1997) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and naturalized American point guard Larry Taylor (183-1980, college: MWSU) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals by American forward Duane Johnson (201-1991, college: ESU) did not help to save the game for U.Corinthians. Serbian guard Radovan Djokovic (196-1996) added 19 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Paschoalotto/Bauru have a solid four-game winning streak. American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) notched 27 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international point guard Elinho Corazza (191-1989, college: Miami Dade CC) supported him with 13 points and 14 assists. Corinthians' coach Silvio Santander used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 20 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) by Argentinian point guard Santiago Ferreyra (188-1997) did not help to save the game for Paulistano. Naturalized American guard Kevin Crescenzi (192-1993, college: Dartmouth) added 15 points for lost side. Paulistano's coach Renan Custodio rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.
