LBF Round 3 (Regular Season): Sampaio keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Sampaio defeated Mesquita in Sampaio Basquete 57-44. Sampaio held Mesquita to an opponent 23.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Mesquita 57-37 including a 42-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international power forward Gabriela Guimaraes (180-1996) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. The former international swingman Carina Martins (171-1992) contributed with 11 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Center Brenda Barros (185-2000) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for Mesquita. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mesquita will play next round against Campinas trying to get back on the winning streak. Sampaio will try to continue on its current victory against Sao Jose at home.
Maringa (1-1) recorded a loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by Cerrado (1-2) 80-75. Cerrado will play against Sao Jose (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maringa will play against Santo Andre to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Ourinhos was also quite interesting. Cerrado (1-2) played at the court of Ourinhos (2-1). Ourinhos defeated Cerrado 72-59 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for Maisa Marcal who led the winners and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. Mia Hopkins came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Cerrado in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ourinhos will meet Blumenau (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cerrado will play against Sao Jose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: winless Santo Andre lost to undefeated Corinthians on the road 50-85. SESI destroyed Blumenau on its own court 81-44. Winless Campinas unfortunately lost to Sao Jose in a road game 61-65.

Maringa - Cerrado 75-80

Maringa (1-1) recorded a loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by Cerrado (1-2) 80-75. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Maisa Marcal (178-2000, college: GCU) who led the winners and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. The former international forward Jeanne Morais (176-1985) accounted for 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Naturalized American swingman Mia Hopkins (180-1994, college: Toronto) came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Leticia Lisboa (183-1993) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Cerrado in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ourinhos will meet Blumenau (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Corinthians - Santo Andre 85-50

No shocking result in a game when Corinthians (3-0) crushed Santo Andre (0-3) in Vila Medon 85-50 on Friday. Corinthians dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Santo Andre's 26. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Santo Andre's players. It was an exceptional evening for international guard Alana Goncalo (166-1994) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 7 assists. Swingman Ariadna Felipe (180-1983) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Corinthians' coach Bruno Guidorizzi felt very confident using 11 players saving starting five for next games. Cuban point guard Ineidis Casanova (162-1988) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Leticia Rodrigues (187-1995) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Santo Andre in the defeat. Corinthians will meet SESI (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Santo Andre will play against Maringa (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Very expected game when Blumenau (0-3) was smashed by SESI (3-0) in Araraquara 81-44 on Saturday. SESI forced 22 Blumenau turnovers and outrebounded them 49-34 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. SESI looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Blumenau's players. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Evelyn Mariano (180-1997) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Vitoria Domingos (181-1996) accounted for 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Power forward Melissa Oliveira (180-2001) came up with 10 points and 7 rebounds and forward Emily Florentino (177) added 10 points respectively for Blumenau in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. SESI will meet at home Corinthians in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Blumenau will play against Ourinhos (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Rather predictable result when Sao Jose (2-1) won against at home Campinas (0-3) 65-61 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sao Jose had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for center Juliana Souza (185-1999) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Jennifer Munoz (170-1991) accounted for 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Aline Cristina (180-1992) added 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Campinas in the defeat. Sao Jose will meet Cerrado (#7) in the next round. Campinas will play against Mesquita and hopes to get finally their first victory.
