The Regular Season in NBB is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most exciting game of round 38 in the NBB took place in Brasilia. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th ranked Brasilia (19-12) to fifth ranked Vasco da Gama (18-14) 79-77 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Marcus Vinicius (205-1984) who scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Rafael Paulichi (202-1998) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Anton Cook (189-1995, college: SE Oklahoma) produced 19 points for the hosts. Despite that victory Vasco da Gama went down to sixth position due to points difference. Brasilia at the other side keeps the fourth place with 12 games lost. Vasco da Gama are looking forward to face higher ranked Sesi/Franca (#3) in Sao Paulo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brasilia will play at home against the league's second-placed Flamengo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Fortaleza managed to get a ninth victory, breaking the four-game losing streak. This time they won against eleventh-ranked Corinthians 79-67. American swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points. Sebastian Orresta contributed with 13 points for the winners. Fortaleza's coach Espiga Soares allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Rafael Munford (195-1998, college: Augusta) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for Corinthians. Cearense maintains eighteenth position with 9-23 record. Corinthians at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 17 games lost. Cearense will play against higher ranked Pinheiros (#8) in Sao Paulo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Corinthians will play on the road against UniFacisa in Paraiba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Leader Minas delivered the twenty seventh victory on Monday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Vasco da Gama (18-14) 76-69 in Belo Horizonte. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vasco da Gama. Jeremy Hollowell scored 8 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Rafael Paulichi responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Minas (27-4) have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Newly promoted Vasco da Gama dropped to the sixth place with 14 games lost. Minas will meet at home Botafogo (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Vasco da Gama will play against Sesi/Franca (#3) in Sao Paulo and hope to secure a win.
Rest of the games of round 38 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
U.Corinthians was crushed by Bauru in a road game 89-69. Botafogo beat Sao Paulo at home 86-85. Sesi/Franca won against Pato on the opponent's court 76-67. Flamengo managed to outperform Paulistano in a home game 70-63. Pinheiros recorded a loss to UniFacisa on the road 82-66.
