The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Minas (28-5) on the court of fifteenth ranked Sao Paulo on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Sao Paulo 71-67. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Minas. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Paulo Da Costa (194-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Malcolm Miller (201-1991, college: Southern) who added 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Winicius Braga (204-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sao Paulo (12-21) moved-up to fourteenth place. Minas at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Sao Paulo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Minas will play on the road against Paulistano in Sao Paulo and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Bauru was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Flamengo (26-7) played at the court of 5th ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (18-14). Flamengo managed to secure a 4-point victory 88-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Paschoalotto/Bauru. The winners were led by the former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) who scored that evening 24 points and 7 assists and Shaquille Johnson supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds by center Andrezao Barbosa de Abreu (213-2002) did not help to save the game for Bauru. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Flamengo have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 26-7 record having just two points less than leader Minas. Bauru at the other side keeps the fifth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with U.Corinthians. Flamengo will play against Sesi/Franca (#3) in Sao Paulo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bauru will play at home against Vasco da Gama and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Third ranked Vivo/Franca (24-9) crushed at home 17th ranked Botafogo (9-24) by 18 points 80-62, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Georginho de Paula fired 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Arthur Pecos produced 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vivo/Franca have an impressive 13-game winning streak. Sesi/Franca maintains third position with 24-9 record having four points less than leader Minas. Newly promoted Botafogo keeps the seventeenth place with 24 games lost. They share the position with Cearense. Sesi/Franca will meet at home league's second-placed Flamengo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
