Gabriela Guimaraes claims Brazilian LBF weekly honour

International Gabriela Guimaraes (180-C/F-1996) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's leader Sampaio Basquete and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 28-year old had a double-double of 32 points and 12 rebounds, while her team outclassed Maringa (#11, 1-13) with 40-point margin 81-41. It allowed Sampaio to consolidate first place in the Brazilian LBF. Sampaio has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 11-1. In the team's last game Guimaraes had a remarkable 70.6% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Sampaio, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Guimaraes has impressive league stats. She is league's best scorer averaging so far 21.5ppg. Guimaraes is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 10.5rpg) and averages solid 2.3spg and 58.8% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young international center Maria Ferreira (192-C-1994) of Ourinhos Basquete. Ferreira impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds. Of course she led Ourinhos to another comfortable win 73-56 over slightly higher-ranked SESI (#2, 10-2) being unquestionably team leader. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Ourinhos consolidated its place in top 4 of the standings. Her team's 8-4 record is not bad at all. Ferreira is one of the most experienced players at Ourinhos and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Mia Hopkins (180-G/F-1994) of Cerrado Basquete Brasilia (#8). Hopkins scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. She was a key player of Cerrado, leading her team to a 85-36 easy win against the lower-ranked Maringa (#11, 1-13). The chances of Cerrado not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 8 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of her teammates, Hopkins could try to bring Cerrado's a little bit higher in the standings. Hopkins has individually a great season in Brazil. After only 9 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.2ppg (3rd best). Mia Hopkins has also Brazilian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player. Hopkins attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on her way to pro basketball.
