LBF Round 13 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Sampaio wins another game

LBF top team - Sampaio (11-1) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Blumenau (2-12) in Sampaio Basquete 76-48. Sampaio forced 22 Blumenau turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Thayna Silva (180-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. The former international power forward Gabriela Guimaraes (180-1996) contributed with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Sil Gustavo (181-1982) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds for Blumenau. Sampaio have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-1 record. Blumenau at the other side keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Sampaio are looking forward to face Mesquita (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Blumenau will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Santo Andre. Sixth ranked Campinas (7-6) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked Santo Andre (4-9) 59-57 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Santo Andre. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Luana Batista chipped in 16 points. Campinas' coach Bernardo Dos Santos allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side Cuban point guard Ineidis Casanova (162-1988) responded with 14 points and 7 assists. Campinas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sao Jose. Santo Andre at the other side keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Campinas will play against Sao Jose (#5) at home in the next round. Santo Andre will have a break next round.

Rayane De Freitas came up with 16 points for Blumenau in the defeat. Cerrado maintains eighth place with 5-8 record. Loser Blumenau keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Cerrado will meet at home league's leader Sampaio in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blumenau will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 13 Mesquita was beaten by Sao Jose on the road 75-66. Bottom-ranked Maringa was destroyed by SESI on its own court 51-70.
The most impressive performance of 13th round was 25 points and 13 rebounds by Vitoria Domingos of SESI.

The game between eighth ranked Cerrado (5-8) and 10th ranked Blumenau (2-12) in Brasilia on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Cerrado outscored guests from Blumenau 78-50. Cerrado forced 21 Blumenau turnovers and outrebounded them 43-32 including 28 on the defensive glass. Cerrado looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international point guard Joice Rodrigues (174-1986) nailed 8 points and 13 assists for the winning side and the former international forward Izabela De Andrade (182-1986) accounted for 16 points. Cerrado's coach Alan Monteiro felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Rayane De Freitas (173-1997) came up with 16 points and Uruguayan Maite Pereira (176-2004) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Blumenau in the defeat. They also forced 21 Mesquita turnovers. Guard Jennifer Munoz (170-1991) nailed 30 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and forward Mayara Marins (175-1997) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds. Colombian guard Mayra Caicedo (161-2000, college: Tarleton St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals and center Brenda Barros (185-2000) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Mesquita in the defeat. Very expected game when 11th ranked Maringa (1-13) was smashed at home by second ranked SESI (10-2) 70-51 on Tuesday. SESI outrebounded Maringa 45-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international Vitoria Domingos (181-1996) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and international forward Emanuely De Oliveira (178-1999, college: Florida) accounted for 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Lorena Silva (189-1998) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and forward Thailane Monteiro (185-2000) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Maringa in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SESI maintains second place with 10-2 record behind leader Sampaio. Maringa lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. SESI will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Maringa will play against Ourinhos (#4) and hope to win that game.
