The most interesting game of round 15 was a home defeat of 3rd placed Corinthians (10-3) to second ranked SESI (11-2) 55-45 in the game for the second place. It ended the seven-game winning streak of Corinthians. It was a great evening for power forward Evelyn Mariano (180-1997) who led her team to a victory scoring 11 points and 7 rebounds. International forward Emanuely De Oliveira (178-1999, college: Florida) helped adding 11 points. SESI's coach Fabio Appolinario used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Cuban center Nahomis Vargas-Hardy (188-2003) with 10 points and 9 rebounds. SESI maintains second place with 11-2 record behind leader Sampaio. Corinthians at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. SESI are looking forward to face Mesquita (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Corinthians will play against Maringa (#11) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Brasilia was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked Campinas (8-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Cerrado (6-9). Campinas defeated Cerrado 65-54. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cerrado. It was an exceptional evening for Argentinian point guard Melisa Gretter (166-1993) who led the winners and scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Babi Honorio accounted for 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Izabela De Andrade (182-1986) came up with 13 points and 9 rebounds for Cerrado in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Campinas maintains sixth place with 8-7 record. Cerrado at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Campinas will play against league's leader Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cerrado will play at home against Santo Andre (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
11th ranked Maringa (1-15) was outscored at home by fifth ranked Sao Jose (9-6) with the biggest margin this round 83-63 on Tuesday night. The best player for the winners was Manuela Rios who scored 24 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. Sao Jose's coach Leandro Leal allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Thailane Monteiro who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. Sao Jose have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 9-6 record. Maringa lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Sao Jose will meet higher ranked Ourinhos (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maringa will play against Corinthians (#3) and hope to win that game.
