The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Sampaio (12-2) in Brasilia on Thursday night. Visitors were edged by eighth ranked Cerrado (6-9) 85-84. Cerrado looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international point guard Joice Rodrigues (174-1986) had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 6 rebounds and 14 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Leticia Lisboa (183-1993) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Cerrado's coach Alan Monteiro used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international power forward Gabriela Guimaraes (180-1996) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Cerrado have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 6-9 record. Sampaio at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Cerrado are looking forward to face higher ranked Campinas (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sampaio will have a break next round.
Very significant was Sao Jose's (#5) 92-82 road victory against 6th ranked Campinas. Colombian guard Manuela Rios (163-1997) notched 41 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Maira Horford supported her with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds by the former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) did not help to save the game for Campinas. Campinas' coach Bernardo Dos Santos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sao Jose have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 9-6 record.
