LBF Round 19 (Regular Season): SESI is upset by Campinas

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LBF. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game between second ranked SESI (13-4) and sixth ranked Campinas (11-8) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. SESI was defeated by Campinas in Campinas 78-68. Campinas dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to SESI's 24 and made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) fired 26 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Maisa Dias (-2002) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws). The former international power forward Aline Moura (185-1997) produced 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Campinas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. SESI at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Corinthians. Campinas are looking forward to face Mesquita (#7) at home in the next round. SESI will play against Santo Andre (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was played in Brasilia between eighth ranked Cerrado and 4th placed Ourinhos where host Cerrado (8-10) won against Ourinhos (11-7) 64-55. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Dayna Rouse (185-1998, college: Longwood) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 8 rebounds. Izabela De Andrade contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Cerrado's coach Alan Monteiro allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Juliana Ribeiro (189-1994) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for Ourinhos. Cerrado maintains eighth place with 8-10 record. Ourinhos at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Cerrado will play against higher ranked Corinthians (#3) in Vila Medon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ourinhos will play on the road against the league's leader Sampaio having rather not much hope for a victory.
Leader Sampaio delivered the sixteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Sao Jose (10-9) 93-76. It was a great evening for Thayna Silva who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). At the losing side Manuela Rios responded with 27 points and 5 assists. Sampaio (16-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place. Loser Sao Jose keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Sampaio will meet at home Ourinhos (#4) in the next round. Sao Jose will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 19 bottom-ranked Maringa was crushed by Santo Andre in a road game 80-60. Corinthians smashed Blumenau at home 74-28.

Santo Andre - Maringa 80-60

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Maringa (1-19) was crushed on the road by ninth ranked Santo Andre (6-12) 80-60 on Friday. Santo Andre made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Maringa turnovers and outrebounded them 43-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for forward Marcella Prande (180-2005) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Brenda Bleidao (177-2003) helped adding 20 points and 13 rebounds. Five Santo Andre players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Jenyff Moura (185-2001) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Autran Duda scored 11 points. Maringa's coach Rafael Oliveira rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Santo Andre maintains ninth place with 6-12 record. Maringa lost nineteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 19 lost games. Santo Andre will meet league's second-placed SESI in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maringa will have a break next round.

Sampaio looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Sao Jose's players. It was a great evening for the former international forward Thayna Silva (180-1996) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Lays Silva (166-1998, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Sampaio players scored in double figures. At the losing side Colombian guard Manuela Rios (163-1997) responded with 27 points and 5 assists (made all of her seven free throws) and center Barbara Bazilio (185-1991) scored 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Corinthians - Blumenau 74-28

No shocking result in a game in Vila Medon where third ranked Corinthians (13-4) smashed 10th ranked Blumenau (2-16) 74-28 on Saturday. Corinthians held Blumenau to an opponent 20.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Corinthians forced 19 Blumenau turnovers and outrebounded them 50-31 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Blumenau's players. It was a great evening for Cuban center Nahomis Vargas-Hardy (188-2003) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-1995) helped adding 14 points and 7 rebounds. Corinthians' coach Bruno Guidorizzi felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Rayane De Freitas (173-1997) responded with 6 points and 10 rebounds and guard Vitoria Romualdo (166-2004) scored 3 points and 6 rebounds. Corinthians moved-up to second place, which they share with SESI. Blumenau lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 16 games lost. Corinthians will meet at home Cerrado (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Blumenau will play against the league's second-placed SESI and hope to secure a win.
