LBF Round 20 (Regular Season): Corinthians lose to Cerrado

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most important game in the last round took place in Vila Medon between third ranked Corinthians (14-5) and eighth ranked Cerrado (9-10) on Thursday night. Corinthians was defeated by Cerrado in a tough game at home 64-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Corinthians. Cerrado made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. American forward Dayna Rouse (185-1998, college: Longwood) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). The former international point guard Joice Rodrigues (174-1986) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Cerrado's coach Alan Monteiro used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-1995) replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Corinthians. Cerrado maintains eighth position with 9-10 record. Corinthians at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost. Cerrado are looking forward to face higher ranked Sao Jose (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Corinthians will play against Mesquita and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Sampaio (17-2) which hosted in Sampaio Basquete 4th ranked Ourinhos (11-8). First ranked Sampaio managed to get a 13-point victory 77-64. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Lays Silva (166-1998, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 6 assists and Gabriela Guimaraes who added 16 points during the contest. Power forward Juliana Ribeiro (189-1994) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Sampaio have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-2 record. Ourinhos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Sampaio will play against league's second-placed SESI in Araraquara in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ourinhos will play at home against Blumenau and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game was also surprising home defeat of 4th ranked Campinas in a game versus Mesquita (#7) 62-57. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Campinas. The winners were led by Mayra Caicedo who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists by Izabella Sangalli did not help to save the game for Campinas. Mesquita have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Sao Jose. Loser Campinas dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Mesquita will meet higher ranked Corinthians (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Campinas will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 20: Corinthians smashed Santo Andre on the road 84-35. Blumenau lost to SESI on its own court 53-66. Santo Andre was outscored by SESI in Araraquara 50-78.

Santo Andre - Corinthians 35-84

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Corinthians (14-5) crushed on the road 9th ranked Santo Andre (6-14) 84-35 on Monday. Corinthians held Santo Andre to an opponent 24.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.5 percent accuracy of the winners and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Corinthians forced 20 Santo Andre turnovers and outrebounded them 39-23 including 28 on the defensive glass. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Santo Andre's players. The winners were led by the former international center Mariana Queiroz (190-1997) who scored that evening 22 points and forward Milena Rodrigues (174-1998) supported her with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Corinthians' coach Bruno Guidorizzi felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 6 points by guard Isinha Souza (166-2002) did not help to save the game for Santo Andre. The former international power forward Leticia Rodrigues (187-1995) added 7 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts.
