NBB Round 2 (Regular Season): Cearense loses #1 position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in NBB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 2 in NBB took place in Rio de Janeiro where host Flamengo crushed Fortaleza 102-73 on Thursday evening. Flamengo forced 20 Cearense turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Bulgarian-American point guard Dee Bost (189-1989, college: MSU) chipped in 22 points and 4 steals. American point guard Michael Dupree (185-1995, college: Northwest) produced 16 points and 6 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Flamengo defeated UNIFACISA in Rio de Janeiro 80-70. The former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 8 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Markeith Cummings contributed with 14 points for the winners. Flamengo's coach Sergio Hernandez used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international Antonio Ferreira (200-1994) replied with 14 points and 5 rebounds for UniFacisa. UNIFACISA will play next round against Botafogo trying to get back on the winning streak. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Pinheiros in Sao Paulo on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Vivo/Franca 87-69. Georginho de Paula had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. CJ Penha responded with 16 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vivo/Franca's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Paulistano.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Pato lost to undefeated Caxias do Sul in a road game 63-70. Winless Cruzeiro was beaten by Corinthians at home 65-81. Winless Osasco lost to undefeated Brasilia on the opponent's court 74-77. Botafogo managed to outperform Vasco in a home game 85-76. Mogi lost to undefeated Minas on the road 71-79. U.Corinthians defeated Pato on its own court 92-88. Bauru was smashed by Pinheiros in Sao Paulo 83-60.
The best stats of 2nd round was 14 points and 4 steals by Pedro Pastre of Pinheiros.



Caxias do Sul - Pato 70-63

There was no surprise when Pato was defeated on the road by Caxias do Sul 70-63 on Tuesday. Caxias do Sul outrebounded Pato 38-20 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Humberto Silva (196-1995) scored 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. American forward Raekwon Horton (198-2002, college: UTSA) responded with 25 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import Markeith Cummings (198-1988, college: KSU) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There was a small surprise when Corinthians defeated on the road Cruzeiro 81-65 on Tuesday. Corinthians made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) responded with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and center Ralfi Ansaloni (209-1987) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Cruzeiro's coach Thiago Perez rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Brasilia - Osasco 77-74

Very expected game when Osasco was edged on the road by Brasilia 77-74 on Wednesday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Brasilia forced 19 Osasco turnovers. Argentinian-Italian point guard Facundo Corvalan (190-1998) scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and chipped in 16 points during the contest. Argentinian guard Alejo Britos (187-1994) responded with 23 points and 5 assists and American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Osasco's coach Enio Vecchi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Brasilia will meet at home Rio Claro in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Osasco will play against Bauru and hope to win that game.

White is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Botafogo's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Pedro Nunes (199-2000) responded with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized Italian forward Magna Silva (202-1998) scored 14 points and 5 assists. Four Botafogo and five Vasco players scored in double figures. Botafogo will meet at home UniFacisa in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Vasco will play against UniFacisa and hope to win that game.

Paulo Da Costa responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the former international center Andre Dikembe (206-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds.
