NBB Round 15 (Regular Season): Brasilia is upset by Sao Jose

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Brasilia (11-4) and eighth ranked Sao Jose (9-5) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. Brasilia was defeated by Sao Jose in Sao Jose 87-73. They made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Malcolm Miller (201-1991, college: Southern) who scored 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international guard Adyel Borges (190-2002) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds. Brasilia's coach Dede Barbosa rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sao Jose moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mogi. Brasilia at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Sao Jose is looking forward to face Rio Claro (#17) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brasilia will play against Corinthians (#6) in Sao Paulo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Vasco can celebrate finally their first win this season after 13 consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Paulistano (8-7) on the road game in Sao Paulo 69-65. It was a good game for center Sergio Conceicao (209-2000) who led his team to a victory with 19 points. Alexsander Vernizz contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Malcolm Miller (201-1991, college: Southern) answered with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for Paulistano. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Vasco maintains twentieth place with 1-13 record. Paulistano at the other side keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. Vasco will play against higher ranked Pinheiros (#3) in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Paulistano will have a break next round.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Bauru, where higher ranked Corinthians (9-4) lost to twelfth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (7-8) in a road game 84-94 on Wednesday. It was a great evening for Andrezao Barbosa de Abreu who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Paschoalotto/Bauru's coach Paulo Cezar Martins used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Davaunta Thomas with 24 points and 4 assists. Bauru moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Corinthians dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Bauru will meet at home higher ranked Mogi (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Corinthians will play against Brasilia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 15 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Caxias do Sul defeated Botafogo in a road game 80-75. Cearense beat Osasco at home 89-82. Pato won against Rio Claro on the opponent's court 109-101. Pinheiros managed to outperform Mogi in a home game 84-69.
The best stats of 15th round was 16 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists by Vitor Silva of Paulistano.



Botafogo - Caxias do Sul 75-80

There was no surprise in Rio de Janeiro where 18th ranked Botafogo (3-12) was defeated by twelfth ranked Caxias do Sul (6-7) 80-75 on Monday. Botafogo was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. It was a great evening for Rafa Oliveira who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized American swingman Shamell Stallworth (195-1980, college: USF) helped adding 9 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was center Sergio Conceicao (209-2000) with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and produced a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Botafogo's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Caxias do Sul maintains twelfth place with 6-7 record, which they share with U.Corinthians. Botafogo lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the nineteenth position with 12 games lost. Caxias do Sul will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Botafogo will play against U.Corinthians (#12) and hope to secure a win.

There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked Fortaleza (4-9) defeated at home their close opponent Osasco (4-12) 89-82 on Tuesday. Cearense dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Osasco's 36 and made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Cearense looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for forward Bernardo Da Silva (206-2000, college: Hawaii) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. Alexander Mudronja helped adding 20 points and 6 assists. Five Fortaleza players scored in double figures. Fortaleza's coach Jelena Todorovic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Eddy Carvalho (196-1987) with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American swingman Shamell Stallworth (195-1980, college: USF) scored 23 points and 5 assists. Cearense moved-up to fourteenth place. Osasco lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Rio Claro.
