The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Recife in Brasilia on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Cerrado 64-53. Cerrado forced 21 Recife turnovers and had a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Izabela De Andrade (182-1986) contributed with 6 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Ana Rodrigues (164-2003) replied with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for Recife. Cerrado is looking forward to face Salvador in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Recife will play against Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game for Recife which played on the court of Salvador. Recife won 68-63. Mayara Leoncio had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Ana Rodrigues chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) during the contest. The former international forward Tatiane Pacheco (181-1990) responded with 20 points. Salvador's coach Eduardo Oliveira rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Recife will play against Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Salvador will play on the road against Cerrado in Brasilia to get more than just one victory in their record.
Very important is a home loss of Mesquita against Campinas on Sunday night. Host Mesquita was defeated by Campinas in a tough game in Mesquita 78-85. Tassia Carcavalli notched 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Even 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by Jayla Crawford did not help to save the game for Mesquita. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Campinas will meet SESI in the next round. Mesquita will play against Sao Jose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
In the last two games of round 2 SESI beat Maringa on the road 53-49. Sampaio destroyed Salvador on its own court 81-54.
