LBF Round 2 (Regular Season): Cerrado defeat Recife

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LBF. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Recife in Brasilia on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Cerrado 64-53. Cerrado forced 21 Recife turnovers and had a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Izabela De Andrade (182-1986) contributed with 6 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Ana Rodrigues (164-2003) replied with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for Recife. Cerrado is looking forward to face Salvador in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Recife will play against Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game for Recife which played on the court of Salvador. Recife won 68-63. Mayara Leoncio had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Ana Rodrigues chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) during the contest. The former international forward Tatiane Pacheco (181-1990) responded with 20 points. Salvador's coach Eduardo Oliveira rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Recife will play against Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Salvador will play on the road against Cerrado in Brasilia to get more than just one victory in their record.
Very important is a home loss of Mesquita against Campinas on Sunday night. Host Mesquita was defeated by Campinas in a tough game in Mesquita 78-85. Tassia Carcavalli notched 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Even 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by Jayla Crawford did not help to save the game for Mesquita. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Campinas will meet SESI in the next round. Mesquita will play against Sao Jose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 2 SESI beat Maringa on the road 53-49. Sampaio destroyed Salvador on its own court 81-54.

Maringa - SESI 49-53

The game between closely ranked teams ended with SESI's road victory over Maringa 53-49 on Friday. SESI forced 21 Maringa turnovers. International Vitoria Marcelino (181-1996) notched a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and power forward Evelyn Mariano (180-1997) supported her with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds by center Thayna Sylvestre (181-2004) did not help to save the game for Maringa. Forward Jamily Reis (175-2003) added 7 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the hosts. SESI will meet at home Campinas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maringa will play against Santo Andre and hope to win that game.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Salvador's road loss to Sampaio in Sampaio Basquete 54-81 on Friday. Sampaio looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Salvador's players. The former international power forward Gabriela Guimaraes (180-1996) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and the former international point guard Lays Da Silva (166-1998, agency: Interperformances) supported her with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Sampaio players scored in double figures. Even 18 points by Cuban point guard Ineidis Casanova (162-1988) did not help to save the game for Salvador. point guard Tayna Reis (170-1996) added 8 points for the guests. Salvador's coach Eduardo Oliveira gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sampaio will meet at home Recife in the next round where they are favorite. Salvador will play against Cerrado in Brasilia and hope to win that game.

Very important is a home loss of Mesquita against Campinas on Sunday night. Host Mesquita was defeated by Campinas in a tough game in Mesquita 78-85. Campinas dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Mesquita's 38. Campinas had a 37-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Mesquita's players. The former international guard Tassia Carcavalli (179-1992) notched 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and center Brenda Barros (185-2000) supported her with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Campinas players scored in double figures. Even 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by American guard Jayla Crawford (170-2000, college: Alabama St., agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Mesquita.
