LBF Round 3 (Regular Season): SESI lose their first game against Campinas

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of SESI (1-1) in Araraquara on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Campinas (2-0) 71-59. Campinas outrebounded SESI 53-39 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for international guard Izabela Nicoletti (178-1999, college: Fairfield) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Joice Rodrigues (174-1986) helped adding 4 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Aline Moura (185-1997) with 13 points and 5 assists. Campinas is looking forward to face Maringa (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SESI will play against Sao Jose (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Cerrado (2-0) crushed at home Salvador (0-3) by 53 points 96-43, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a quality performance for Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Izabela De Andrade accounted for 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Isabela Costa (-1992) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Salvador in the defeat. Cerrado will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Salvador will play at home against Mesquita (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Santo Andre won against Maringa on the opponent's court 73-62. Mesquita unfortunately lost to Sao Jose in a home game 54-58. Recife lost to undefeated Sampaio on the road 37-74.

Maringa - Santo Andre 62-73

Very expected game when Maringa (0-3) was defeated at home by Santo Andre (2-0) 73-62. Santo Andre outrebounded Maringa 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for forward Marcella Prande (180-2005) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Center Giovanna Rocha (187-2005) accounted for 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Four Santo Andre players scored in double figures. Forward Ana Sampaio (175-2003) came up with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Renata Filippin (180-2003) added 17 points respectively for Maringa in the defeat. Maringa's coach Rafael Oliveira rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santo Andre will play against Sampaio (#3) in Sampaio Basquete in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Maringa will play on the road against Campinas (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Mesquita - Sao Jose 54-58

There was a small surprise when Sao Jose (1-1) defeated on the road Mesquita (1-2) 58-54. Sao Jose forced 19 Mesquita turnovers and outrebounded them 47-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for forward Thailane Monteiro (185-2000) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Center Juliana Souza (185-1999) accounted for 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Sao Jose players scored in double figures. American guard Jayla Crawford (170-2000, college: Alabama St., agency: Interperformances) came up with 27 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import swingman Connie Clarke (178-2001, college: MWSU, agency: Interperformances) added 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Mesquita in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sao Jose will play against SESI (#6) in Araraquara in the next round. Mesquita will play against Salvador to get more than just one victory in their record.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Recife's (1-2) road loss to Sampaio (2-0) 37-74. Sampaio dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Recife's 20. Sampaio forced 26 Recife turnovers and outrebounded them 54-30 including a 19-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Gabriela Guimaraes (180-1996) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. The former international point guard Lays Da Silva (166-1998, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Sampaio players scored in double figures. Mayara Leoncio came up with 9 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Gabriellem De Paula (190-2002) added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Recife in the defeat. Recife's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sampaio will play against Santo Andre (#4) on the road in the next round. Recife will play against Mesquita and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Cerrado dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Salvador's 30. They outrebounded Salvador 39-23 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cerrado players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Salvador's players. It was a quality performance for Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international forward Izabela De Andrade (182-1986) accounted for 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Cerrado players scored in double figures.
