NBB Round 41 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Pinheiros defeat Vasco

The teams have now bigger motivation at this stage of Regular Season. Every game can be crucial and decide about teams' position at the end of Regular Season. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

NBB top team - Pinheiros (27-6) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat nineteenth ranked Vasco (5-28) in Rio de Janeiro 81-63. Pinheiros outrebounded Vasco 43-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. American point guard David Sloan (183-1999, college: ETSU) stepped up and scored 13 points for the winners and center Matheus Marques (206-2001) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Pinheiros' coach Gustavo Conti used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Sergio Conceicao (209-2000) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Pinheiros maintains first place with 27-6 record. Vasco at the other side keeps the nineteenth position with 28 games lost. Pinheiros are looking forward to face Minas (#4) in Belo Horizonte in the next round. Vasco will have a break next round.
The game in Brasilia was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked Corinthians (22-9) played at the court of sixth ranked Brasilia (23-9). Brasilia defeated Corinthians 89-74. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Corinthians. The former international forward Brunao Cardoso (197-2002) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and Facundo Corvalan accounted for 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international Lucas Caue (206-1998) came up with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for Corinthians in the defeat. Brasilia moved-up to fifth place. Corinthians at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Brasilia will play against higher ranked Flamengo (#3) in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Corinthians' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Sesi/Franca.
A very close game took place in Caxias do Sul between Botafogo and Caxias do Sul. Seventeenth ranked Botafogo (8-24) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Caxias do Sul (14-19). Botafogo managed to escape with a 1-point win 68-67 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was Matheusinho Brito who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Rafa Oliveira produced 21 points for the hosts. Caxias do Sul's coach Rodrigo Barbosa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Botafogo moved-up to sixteenth place. Loser Caxias do Sul keeps the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Botafogo will meet higher ranked U.Corinthians (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caxias do Sul will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 41: Osasco was destroyed by Flamengo on the opponent's court 101-71. Rio Claro unfortunately lost to Mogi in a home game 77-83. UniFacisa recorded a loss to Bauru on the road 84-96. Sesi/Franca crushed Cearense on its own court 116-71. Minas beat Osasco in Belo Horizonte 78-66.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 12 points and 10 rebounds by Alexandre Paranhos of Minas.




Flamengo - Osasco 101-71

Very expected game in Rio de Janeiro where 19th ranked Osasco (5-29) was crushed by third ranked Flamengo (24-6) 101-71 on Friday. Flamengo shot 61.2 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Osasco's players. The best player for the winners was Argentinian forward Alex Negrete (192-2001) who scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American Markeith Cummings (198-1988, college: KSU) chipped in 15 points (perfect from the field making all six shots). Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. American guard Anthony Harris (191-1997, college: Chicago St.) produced 27 points and 4 assists and center Vinicius Malachias (209-1999) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flamengo maintains third place with 24-6 record having 3 victories less than leader Pinheiros. Loser Osasco dropped to the bottom. Flamengo will meet Brasilia (#5) on the road in the next round. Osasco will have a break next round.

Very predictable result when tenth ranked Mogi (18-14) defeated on the road 15th ranked Rio Claro (10-22) 83-77 on Friday. Mogi made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Felipe Ruivo (188-1998) who scored 21 points and 8 assists. American guard Charles Hinkle (198-1988, college: American) chipped in 21 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Mogi players scored in double figures. Mogi's coach Fernando Penna used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) produced 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and power forward Matheus Bonfim (206-1999) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Mogi maintains tenth place with 18-14 record. Loser Rio Claro keeps the fifteenth position with 22 games lost. Mogi will meet higher ranked Brasilia (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rio Claro will play against Sao Jose (#9) and hope to secure a win.
