LBF Round 6 (Regular Season): Campinas lose to Sampaio

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LBF. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most important game of round 6 took place in Sampaio Basquete between two undefeated teams where Sampaio beat Campinas (5-1) 68-57 on Wednesday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Campinas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Campinas 50-34 including 36 on the defensive glass. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Lays Da Silva (166-1998, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Leticia Rodrigues (187-1995) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Undefeated Sampaio (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Campinas at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with SESI. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sampaio. Campinas will play next round against Santo Andre trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sampaio will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked SESI in Araraquara.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 6: Santo Andre was destroyed by Cerrado on the opponent's court 85-59. Sao Jose managed to outperform Recife in a home game 71-59. Mesquita recorded a loss to SESI on the road 89-72. Santo Andre crushed Recife on its own court 82-51.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Giovanna Rocha of Santo Andre.

Cerrado - Santo Andre 85-59

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Santo Andre's (4-2) road loss to fourth ranked Cerrado (4-1) 59-85. Cerrado dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Santo Andre's 18. They outrebounded Santo Andre 59-30 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cerrado players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international power forward Licinara Rodrigues (184-1999) supported her with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Four Cerrado players scored in double figures. Cerrado's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 13 points and 6 rebounds by forward Marcella Prande (180-2005) did not help to save the game for Santo Andre. The former international guard Maria Albiero (173-1998, college: BYU) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Cerrado maintains fourth position with 4-1 record. Santo Andre at the other side keeps the fifth place with two games lost. Cerrado will play against Sao Jose (#6) at home in the next round. Recife lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with six games lost. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Mesquita's players. International Vitoria Marcelino (181-1996) notched 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international power forward Aline Moura (185-1997) supported her with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals.
