Brazilian LBF round 9 best performance: Mariana Queiroz

International Center Mariana Queiroz (190-C-1997) had a great game in the last round for top-ranked Sampaio Basquete, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while her team outclassed Recife (#9, 2-9) with 56-point margin 95-39. It allowed Sampaio to consolidate first place in the Brazilian LBF. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Sampaio keeps a perfect 10-0 record. In the team's last game Queiroz had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Sampaio, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Mariana Queiroz averages this season 10.3ppg and 6.4rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Maria De Souza (168-F-2003) of Salvador Basket. De Souza had a very good evening with 21 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Salvador lost that game 62-81 to slightly higher-ranked Recife (#9, 2-9). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Salvador is still at the dead bottom 10th position. 9 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Salvador managed to get this year. De Souza is one of the most experienced players at Salvador and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American swingman Connie Clarke (178-G/F-2001, agency: Interperformances) of Sodie Mesquita (#7). Clarke scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was a key player of Mesquita, leading her team to a 67-65 win against slightly lower-ranked Maringa (#8, 2-8). The chances of Mesquita not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 7 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of her teammates, Clarke could try to bring Mesquita's a little bit higher in the standings. Clarke has individually a great season in Brazil. After 10 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.6ppg (3rd best) and rebounds with 9.0rpg (4th best). She also has 4.5spg and a FGP of 50.8%. Clarke attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on her way to pro basketball.
