The most exciting game of round 9 in the LBF took place in Mesquita. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Maringa (2-8) to seventh ranked Mesquita (3-7) 67-65 in the game for the seventh place. Mesquita forced 25 Maringa turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Maringa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American swingman Connie Clarke (178-2001, college: MWSU, agency: Interperformances) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Her fellow American import guard Jayla Crawford (170-2000, college: Alabama St., agency: Interperformances) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. Mesquita's coach Raphael Zaremba used entire bench in such tough game. Center Thayna Sylvestre (181-2004) answered with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Maringa. Mesquita maintains seventh place with 3-7 record. Maringa at the other side keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. Mesquita are looking forward to face higher ranked Sao Jose (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maringa will play against the league's second-placed Campinas where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
LBF top team - Sampaio (10-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Recife (2-9) in Gloria do Goita 95-39. The former international center Mariana Queiroz (190-1997) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Gabriela Guimaraes chipped in 20 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was center Jenyff Moura (185-2001) with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Recife's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Sampaio have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-0 record. Recife at the other side keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Sampaio will play against bottom-ranked Salvador (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Recife will have a break next round.
The game in Santo Andre was also quite interesting. Second ranked Campinas (9-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Santo Andre (5-5). Campinas defeated Santo Andre 80-67 on Wednesday. Leticia Rodrigues nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Campinas' coach Babi Honorio used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marcella Prande came up with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Santo Andre in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Campinas. They maintain second place with 9-1 record behind leader Sampaio. Santo Andre lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with five games lost. Campinas will meet Maringa (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Santo Andre will play against Sao Jose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
In the last two games of round 9 Campinas smashed Salvador on the road 91-42. Recife destroyed Salvador on its own court 81-62.
