LBF Round 16 (Regular Season): Sampaio beat SESI in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Araraquara. First ranked Sampaio faced 3rd ranked SESI. Guests from Sampaio Basquete (16-1) defeated host SESI (13-4) 61-48. The former international forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-1995) fired 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. International forward Emanuely Oliveira (178-1999, college: Florida) chipped in 9 points. Sampaio's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Aline Moura (185-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Sampaio maintains first position with 16-1 record. SESI at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. Sampaio are looking forward to face Sao Jose (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. SESI will play against Santo Andre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Campinas' coach Babi Honorio felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. point guard Tayna Reis (170-1996) replied with 25 points and 9 rebounds for Salvador. There was no surprise when 9th ranked Recife (3-15) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Mesquita (7-10) 82-73. Mesquita shot 31 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Recife only scored eleven points from the stripe. Mesquita forced 20 Recife turnovers and had a 38-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mesquita players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Recife was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Jayla Crawford (170-2000, college: Alabama St., agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. The other American import swingman Connie Clarke (178-2001, college: MWSU, agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners.
