LBF Round 17 (Regular Season): SESI lose to Santo Andre

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game between third ranked SESI (13-5) and fifth ranked Santo Andre (10-8) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. SESI was defeated by Santo Andre in Santo Andre 60-72. Santo Andre outrebounded SESI 39-27 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santo Andre looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international guard Maria Albiero (173-1998, college: BYU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. ex-international center Clarissa Dos Santos (188-1988) contributed with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Aline Moura (185-1997) answered with 10 points and 7 rebounds for SESI. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santo Andre maintains fifth place with 10-8 record. SESI lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with five games lost. They share it with Cerrado.
LBF top team - Sampaio (17-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Sao Jose (8-10) in Sampaio Basquete 76-36. The former international forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and Izabella Sangalli chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Center Juliana Souza (185-1999) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sampaio have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-1 record. Sao Jose at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cerrado have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with SESI. Salvador lost fourteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 17 lost games.

In the last game of round 17 Mesquita was smashed by Campinas on the road 90-69.

Salvador - Cerrado 42-105

The game between 10th ranked Salvador (1-17) and fourth ranked Cerrado (13-5) in on Wednesday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Brasilia outscored Salvador 105-42. Cerrado dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Salvador's 26 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Cerrado forced 32 Salvador turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Salvador's players. Salvadorean Hillary Martinez (172-1997) nailed 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals for the winning side and ex-international guard Taina Paixao (173-1991) accounted for 20 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. point guard Tayna Reis (170-1996) came up with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Julia Fattori added 15 points respectively for Salvador in the defeat. No shocking result in a game when second ranked Campinas (15-3) crushed at home 7th ranked Mesquita (7-11) 90-69 on Wednesday. Campinas dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mesquita's 20. Campinas forced 23 Mesquita turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Mesquita's players. The former international power forward Leticia Rodrigues (187-1995) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and international guard Izabela Nicoletti (178-1999, college: Fairfield) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Campinas players scored in double figures. American guard Jayla Crawford (170-2000, college: Alabama St., agency: Interperformances) came up with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Amanda De Oliveira (178-1993) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Mesquita in the defeat. Mesquita's coach Raphael Zaremba gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Campinas. They maintain second place with 15-3 record having just two points less than leader Sampaio. Loser Mesquita keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost.
