Penn Named NEC Player of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU men's basketball senior Eral Penn (201-F) was named the Northeast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. It's the second honor of his career, and first this season.

Penn was the offensive driving force behind LIU's 90-65 win over Army at home Sunday. The senior was firing on all cylinders, scoring a season-high 23 points, and matching a career-best with four three-pointers made, as LIU hit 16 triples in the win. Penn scored his 23 points in just 21 minutes, shooting 61.5 percent from the field (8-13). He also had five rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist against the Black Knights.

Penn currently ranks third in the NEC in points per game (15.2 ppg), fifth in offensive rebounds (2.24 pg) and is eighth in blocked shots per game (0.89), and ninth in total rebounds per game (6.2 rpg).

The Sharks open NEC play on the road on December 29, taking on Sacred Heart.
