Mexico - Puerto Rico 83-84 Puerto
Rico waited for revenge almost 2 years and they finally get it. They
lose in final game in 2014 against Mexico but know, in 2016 they won it
and they won it in amazing and interesting game. Only by one point
margin they took the crown from Mexico and make it their owns. Game
started and both teams played really well. First quarter was finished
with +2 for Puerto Rico but in second quarter they have their own show.
They won second quarter with 25:12 and they go on well deserve break at
half time with +15 lead (49:34). Mexico showed how to respond to this
fast tempo of Puerto Rico and they won it 3rd period of the game with
+13 (29:16) and we have intense last 10 minutes of this tournament.
Unfortunately for Mexico, they victory in last quarter was not enough,
as they won it by only one point margin (20:19) and final result of the
game was 84:83 for Puerto Rico. It was pretty tied game all the way and
quality of both teams are on high level so we watched amazing 40 minutes
of CentroBasket basketball.
Best in winning team was Jose Juan Barea (183-PG-84, college: Northeastern) with 17 points and 9 rebounds, he was followed by Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech) with 14 points. In losing team this team, best was Hector Hernandez (205-PF-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) with double double record (20pts + 10rbd), also Paul Stoll (180-PG-85) had good game with 14 points and 8 assists.
With this game over this is it for CentroBasket for 2016.
3-4 Place
Panama - Dominican Republic 48-64 In third place game on Centrobasket this year, Dominican Republic dominated entire game. They grabbed more then deserved victory over Panama in their last game on this tournament. Sadiel Rojas (193-G/F-89, college: Okla.Wesleyan) nipped 11 points for Dominican Republic, and Victor Liz (188-SG-86) helped him with 10. In Panama Jaime Lloreda (204-C/F-80, college: LSU) comes from the bench and helped Panama score 11 points and he catch 11 rebounds in losing team. From the very beginning Dominican Republic play their game, with 1st quarter win 20:5. In third period they just confirm great game and they well deserved 3rd place on this tournament and bronze medal around their necks.

Cuba - U.S. Virgin Islands 70-95 This was important game to win even if it's battle for 5th place, but U.S. Virgin Islands win this game by 25 margin and took number five position on this tournament and with this win they qualifies to Division A in World Cup qualifiers in 2019. First two quarters was close game but, as Virgin Islands go on half time break with 8 point lead but then they start to plying in fifth gear and ended up game with big lead of 25 points. Most efficient was Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) with 19 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for total index of 26. Angel Rivera (173-PG-95) had nice game also with 16 points, 5 rebounds and same amount of assists. In losing team Yasser Rodriguez (187-PG-88) had his night with 21 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
7-8 Place
Nicaragua - Bahamas 77-120 It was pretty efficient game for Bahamas as they scored 120 points and they have eight players with double digit record alongside their name as they all scored more then 10 points. Best in Bahamas was J.R. Cadot with 18 points and 5 rebounds, he was followed by Leon Cooper Jr. with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Travis Munnings (198-F-94) with same amount of points and rebounds. In Nicaragua Thomas Vansdell (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports)l scored 29 points while Roger Munoz (208-C-84) had 14 rebounds and he added to his name 12 points on this game. With this victory Bahamas ended up on 7th position on this Centrobasket.
Semifinals
Dominican Republic - Puerto Rico 69-74 Close game but Puerto Rico ended as a winning side on this semifinal. Dominican Republic opened the game with a lot of energy and passion, they won first quarter by 7 points (25:18) and they remaining with lead after 20 minutes was finished but then Puerto Rico started playing really well, they just played perfectly third quarter, won it by 9 and take the lead of the game. In fourth quarter they won it again, this time with 2 points (21:19) and ended the match with 5 point victory for another final at Centrobasket. Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech) sore 18 point, Renaldo Balkman (203-F-84, college: S.Carolina) had 11 points and 8 rebounds while in Dominican Republic Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, college: Kentucky) had 18 points with 6 rebounds.
This will be second final in the row for Puerto Rico, last year they lost it again Mexico and this year final will be with same teams in there as Mexico also won their semifinal game. So we will have reply from 2014. We will see how will better in 2016.
Panama - Mexico 52-59 Second time in a row, Mexico manage to win semifinal game and goes into battle for title at Centrobasket. Last year they did make it to very end and won this tournament now they will have chance to won it again. It was not efficient game but it was surely intense and fun to watch. At the end we can say that third quarter decided who will go into game for the gold medal. This 10 minutes Mexico was better and won it by 7 (18:11), that was difference on the end of the game as it was ended with 59:52 result for Mexico. Jorge Gutierrez (190-G-88, college: California), from NBA (Charlote Hornets) was best player with 15 points, and never the less important of this big victory for Mexicans was Lorenzo Mata (205-C-86, agency: Pro Sports) with 13 points and 11 rebounds. For Panama Geno Luzcando (190-G-95) scored 18 points and Michael Hicks (196-F-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) scored 13. That was not enough to beat Mexico in this game.

Cuba - Panama 71-76 Panama finished first part of Centrobasket with perfect score as they won all four games, this time against Cuba. It was close game but still, Panama going into semifinal game without lose on this tournament so far. Best in Panama team was Michael Hicks (193-G/F-83, college: Central Mo., agency: Court Side) with 18 points and 4 assists, Ernesto Oglivie (203-F-89) helped him with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. In Cuba who will get into battle for 5th place best was Yordanis Jaca (196-F-83), who plays for Camaguey in his homeland. He scored 13 points with 7 rebounds and 1 assist on this game. Panama will face Mexico in semifinal of this tournament.
Antigua - Puerto Rico 66-117 Easy win for Puerto Rico in last round of Centrobasket. They dominate entire game and won all four quarters against Antigua. Even 5 players from Puerto Rico scored two digits number of points, and most efficient was Alexander Galindo (200-PF-85, college: FIU) with 21 point alongside his name. He was followed with Michael Rosario (190-SG-90, college: Florida) with 20 points and Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86, college: Virginia Tech) with 15. In Antigua team best was Lennox McCoy (188-G-77, college: Cent.Oklahoma) with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Puerto Rico will be playing against Dominican Republic in semifinal game. This year they will try to go until the end and to make up for last year as they lost final game against Mexico.
Group B
Bahamas - Mexico 81-84 In closest game of the day, Mexico was better then team Bahamas with only 3 point difference. Bahamas started game strongly with 26:18 push in first quarter and they have lead until very end of the game. Mexico got strength to finish this game as a winner as they won last quarter with amazing result - 8:24. Best in this huge comeback was Jorge Gutierrez (190-G-88, college: California) with amazing triple-double game. He scored 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, he was followed by Hector Hernandez (205-PF-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) with 24 points. In losing team DeAndre Ayton (213-C-98) had great night with 24 points and 9 rebounds and David Nesbitt (200-F-91, college: St.Thomas, FL) nipped 16 points and catch 8 rebounds for his team.
Dominican Republic - U.S. Virgin Islands 75-69 One more victory for Dominican Republic, this time against U.S. Virgin Islands in close game and win with +6 margin. Most crucial period of the game is 3rd quarter which Dominican Rep. won with +15 difference (27:12) and that's how they separated and Virgin Islands was unable to return to the game, even they won last period of the game with 12:20. Best in winning team was Angel Delgado (206-F-94) with amazing performance and double-double record (21 points and 12 rebounds). For Virgin Islands best was well-known, Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) with 15 points and 5 assist on this game. Panama - Nicaragua 99-60 Panama claimed the third straight victory in the championship. They hosts outgunned Nicaragua to remain perfect. Michael Hicks (196-F-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) was responsible for 16 points to pace the winners. Nicaragua eked out a 19:17 lead at the first break. Panama surged ahead in the second frame taking a 36:35 halftime lead. The hosts stepped on the gas in the second half. They unleashed 63 points after the big break and marched to the victory. Puerto Rico - Cuba 101-69 Puerto Rico claimed the second straight victory in Group A. They rallied past Cuba for 2-1 record. Michael Rosario (190-SG-90, college: Florida) stepped off the bench to account for 25 points in the win. Puerto Rico built a 46:32 halftime lead. They went to score 55 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Jose Juan Barea delivered 16 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds for the winners. Mexico - Dominican Republic 69-82 Dominican Republic celebrated the third straight victory in Panama City. They overcame Mexico to remain perfect in Group B. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, college: Kentucky) netted 20 points for the winning side. Dominican Republic and Mexico were tied at 33 after twenty minutes of action. Dominican Republic however raised the tempo in the third term. They cleared off to an 8-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Dominican Republic sank 29 points in the final period and secured the winning outcome at the end. Angel Delgado (206-F-94) produced 17 points for the winners. Jorge Gutierrez (190-G-88, college: California) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Mexico.
U.S. Virgin Islands - Costa Rica 75-68 US Virgin Islands defeated Costa Rica to improve at 2-1 record in Group B. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) came up with 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds in the victory. Costa Rica dropped 28 points in the second period to jump to a 39:32 halftime lead. But US Virgin Islands adjusted defensively in the third quarter. They held their opponents to just 7 points in the period and grabbed a 5-point lead. They followed with 24-point effort in the fourth stanza to ice the victory. Khalid Hart (198-SF-95) tossed in 11 points for the winners. Cuba - Antigua 88-66 Cuba cruised past Antigua for the second straight victory in Panama City. They stretched the margin at 14-point mark at the final break and cruised to the victory at the end. William Granda (189-SG-85, agency: Pro Sports) delivered 17 points for Cuba. Dominican Republic - Bahamas 87-80 Dominican Republic held off Bahamas to stay perfect in Panama City. Victor Liz (188-SG-86) came up with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Dominican Republic jumped to a 23:17 lead ten minutes into the game. They arrived at halftime up by 7 points 43:36. Bahamas unloaded 44 points in the second half but Dominican Republic withheld the challange and secured the victory. Juan Coronado (193-G-83) tossed in 17 points for the winners. Costa Rica - Dominican Republic 58-80 Dominican Republic experienced little problems en route to the opening victory in Panama City. They stormed past Costa Rica in Group B. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, college: Kentucky) and Rigoberto Mendoza (190-G-92) tossed in 15 points each for the winners. Dominican Republic ensured an 18:7 lead after ten minutes. They went on a 23:10 rally in the third term to pile up a 23-point advantage at the final intermission. Costa Rica dropped 24 points in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the loss. Juan Garcia tossed in 13 points for the winners. Marcos Castrillo (201-F, college: W.New Mexico) topscored with 15 points for Costa Rica.
U.S. Virgin Islands - Bahamas 82-74 US Virgin Islands secured the winning start to Group B campaign. They held off Bahamas behind 18 points from Khalid Hart (198-SF-95). US Virgin Islands jumped to a 21:10 lead after the opening frame. Bahamas narrowed the gap in the second term. They pulled within 8 points at the interval 27:35. US Virgin Islands dropped 26 points in the third term to regain an 11-point advantage. Bahamas sank 24 points in the fourth stanza but could not avoid the defeat. Justin Gray (188-G-84, college: Wake Forest) tossed in 16 points for the winners. DeAndre Ayton (213-C-98) answered with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Bahamas.
