Puerto Rico - Panama 64-86
Panama coasted past Puerto Rico to secure 2-0 lead on top of Group A. Tony Bishop scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the hosts. Michael Hicks (196-F-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) netted 17 points for the winning side. Puerto Rico claimed a 19:17 lead ten minutes into the game. But Panama responded with 52 points in the next two periods to take a 22-point lead at the final intermission. Panama stayed in charge throughout the fourth quarter and marched to the victory. Peter Ramos (222-C-85) had 14 points for Puerto Rico.

Antigua - Nicaragua 62-74
Nicaragua registered the opening victory in Panama City. They upset Antigua for 1-1 record in Group A. Thomas Vansdell (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) stepped up with 18 points to pace the winners. Nicaragua jumped to a 22:15 lead after the first period. They went on a 23:13 run in the third term to secure a 17-point lead. Nicaragua protected the lead throughout the fourth quarter and rallied to the opening victory. Serbio Abea (191-F-78) produced 16 points for the winners. Lennox McCoy (188-G-77, college: Cent.Oklahoma) answered with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for Antigua.

Group B
Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands 91-83 OT
Mexico outlasted US Virgin Islands in overtime to secure the first victory at the tournament. Francisco Cruz (190-G-89, college: Wyoming) came up with 27 points for the defending champions. Mexico recorded a 34:30 halftime lead. US Virgin Islands however dropped 29 points in the third term to eke out a 3-point lead. Mexico avoided upset first sending the game into overtime and then clinching a tough victory. Hector Hernandez (205-PF-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) tossed in 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the winners. Ivan Aska (201-F-90, college: Murray St., agency: Comsport) answered with 22 points and 7 rebounds for US Virgin Islands.

Bahamas - Costa Rica 82-58
Bahamas topped Costa Rica to improve at 1-1 record in Group B. DeAndre Ayton (213-C-98) came up with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Bahamas stormed into the game. They built a 27:4 lead after the first period. Costa Rica narrowed the deficit in the second term. But Bahamas sank 42 points after the big break and rolled to the victory. Abel Joseph (200-SF-90) provided 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) and Daniel Simmons (194-F/C-80) responded with 13 points each for Costa Rica.
