Group APanama - Nicaragua 99-60Panama claimed the third straight victory in the championship. They hosts outgunned Nicaragua to remain perfect. Michael Hicks (196-F-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) was responsible for 16 points to pace the winners. Nicaragua eked out a 19:17 lead at the first break. Panama surged ahead in the second frame taking a 36:35 halftime lead. The hosts stepped on the gas in the second half. They unleashed 63 points after the big break and marched to the victory. Edward Jones (201-F-86, college: N.Carolina A&T) netted 15 points in the win. Thomas Vansdell (179-G-86, agency: Aspire Sports) responded with 20 points for Nicaragua. Puerto Rico - Cuba 101-69 Puerto Rico claimed the second straight victory in Group A. They rallied past Cuba for 2-1 record. Michael Rosario (190-SG-90, college: Florida) stepped off the bench to account for 25 points in the win. Puerto Rico built a 46:32 halftime lead. They went to score 55 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Jose Juan Barea delivered 16 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds for the winners. William Granda (189-SG-85, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds for Cuba. Javier Justiz (205-C-92, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. Group BMexico - Dominican Republic 69-82Dominican Republic celebrated the third straight victory in Panama City. They overcame Mexico to remain perfect in Group B. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, college: Kentucky) netted 20 points for the winning side. Dominican Republic and Mexico were tied at 33 after twenty minutes of action. Dominican Republic however raised the tempo in the third term. They cleared off to an 8-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Dominican Republic sank 29 points in the final period and secured the winning outcome at the end. Angel Delgado (206-F-94) produced 17 points for the winners. Jorge Gutierrez (190-G-88, college: California) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Mexico. U.S. Virgin Islands - Costa Rica 75-68 US Virgin Islands defeated Costa Rica to improve at 2-1 record in Group B. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) came up with 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds in the victory. Costa Rica dropped 28 points in the second period to jump to a 39:32 halftime lead. But US Virgin Islands adjusted defensively in the third quarter. They held their opponents to just 7 points in the period and grabbed a 5-point lead. They followed with 24-point effort in the fourth stanza to ice the victory. Khalid Hart (198-SF-95) tossed in 11 points for the winners. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) responded with 16 points for Costa Rica. |
