LNB Round 10 (Regular Season): Ancud keep a leadership position

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LNB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Ancud as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Ancud edged 7th ranked Castro at home 84-82. Ancud looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international point guard Franco Morales (181-1992) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Juan Fontena (196-1987) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. American Justin Jackson (203-1990, college: Cincinnati, agency: AG Sports Solutions) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Castro at the other side dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. Castro will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Ancud will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Castro on the road.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Valdivia: Las Animas (#5) and Valdivia (#7). Valdivia was defeated at home 80-93 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds. Diego Low contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. Santiago Soulodre (195-1998) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for Valdivia. Las Animas (8-5) moved-up to fourth place. Valdivia lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Las Animas will play against Liceo PN (#12) in Temuco in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valdivia will play on the road against Espanol (#3) in Osorno and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Espanol (9-4) against seventh ranked Valdivia (6-6) on Sunday night. Visiting Espanol was defeated by Valdivia in Valdivia 88-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Espanol O.. Dwayne Russell had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Benjamin Amor responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Espanol O.'s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Valdivia moved-up to sixth place. Loser Espanol O. keeps the third position with four games lost. Valdivia will meet higher ranked Espanol (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Espanol will play against Liceo PN and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 10 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:

Catolica managed to outperform Puerto Varas in a home game 72-68. Concepcion managed to beat Sportiva Italiana on the road 78-72. Liceo PN was defeated by Espanol on its own court 67-76. Bottom-ranked Espanol was beaten by Puente Alto in a road game 87-74. Los Leones won against Puerto Varas at home 84-71. Puerto Montt managed to outperform Catolica on the opponent's court 81-74. Liceo PN recorded a loss to Las Animas in a home game 61-63.



Sportiva Italiana - Espanol T. 95-75

There was no surprise in Valparaiso where 14th ranked Espanol (2-8) was crushed by ninth ranked Sportiva Italiana (4-6) 95-75 on Friday. American forward Keaton Hervey (201-1998, college: Oakland) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Ocasio (196-1992, college: New Haven) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Sportiva Italiana players scored in double figures. At the losing side Colombian power forward Santiago Serna (203-2001) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and American-Jamaican forward DJ Foreman (203-1994, college: St.Louis) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sportiva Italiana maintains ninth position with 4-6 record. Espanol lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Sportiva Italiana will meet higher ranked Concepcion (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. No shocking result in a game in Quilpue where second ranked Los Leones (10-1) smashed 13th ranked Puerto Montt (4-9) 97-47 on Friday. Los Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Montt's 26. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Puerto Montt's players. American forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Darrol Jones (193-1994) chipped in 12 points during the contest. Four Los Leones players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Ecuadorian center Jordan Cardenas (206-1998, college: FNU) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Los Leones have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-1 record behind leader Ancud. Puerto Montt lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. There was an upset when higher ranked Concepcion (7-3) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Puente Alto (4-7) 94-90 on Friday. Puente Alto looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American forward Justin Everett (206-1996, college: Humboldt St.) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ricardo Montes (-1999) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American center Roquez Johnson (201-1992, college: MSU, agency: BIG) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Sebastian Carrasco (180-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. At the losing side American-Argentinian guard Romeao Ferguson (196-1997, college: Lipscomb) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Yahuza Rasas (201-1999, college: PVAMU) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds.
