The game between second ranked Espanol (2-2) and fourth ranked Univ.Concepcion (3-2) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Espanol was defeated by Univ.Concepcion in a tough game in Talca 74-79. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Univ.Concepcion outrebounded Espanol 53-39 including 40 on the defensive glass. The former international forward Barbara Cousino (178-1996) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Mexican power forward Myriam Lara (188-1994) chipped in 16 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. The former international forward Valentina Ojeda (183-2003, college: VCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Univ.Concepcion moved-up to second place. Espanol at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Sergio Ceppi and Frontera.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sergio Ceppi. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was Taylor Jones who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds. Pia Henriquez produced 14 points and 5 steals for the guests. Sergio Ceppi's coach Roberto Ostoic gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Leones keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sportiva Ita. Loser Sergio Ceppi dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Espanol and Frontera. Leones will meet CDSC (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sergio Ceppi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Puente Alto.

In the last two games of round 5 winless Gimnastico lost to Puente Alto on the opponent's court 62-66. Alemana outscored Univ.Concepcion in a home game 80-58.

Puente Alto - Gimnastico 66-62

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Gimnastico's (0-5) road loss to fifth ranked Puente Alto (2-3) 62-66 on Saturday. Puente Alto forced 32 Gimnastico turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Cuban center Betsy Guilarte (186-2003) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Marcela Jeria (-1990) chipped in 11 points, 6 assists and 9 steals. Guard Tatiana Moyano (-1982) produced 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Venezuelan forward Maria Quero (160-1999) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Puente Alto maintains fifth place with 2-3 record. Loser Gimnastico still closes the standings with five games lost. Puente Alto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Sergio Ceppi.
