Los Leones de Quilpue End Sportiva Italiana's Eight-Year Reign to Win the Title-Jul 15, 2026
Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue are champions of Chile's Liga Nacional Femenina, closing out a thrilling Game 5 with an 88-84 win over Sportiva Italiana to capture the 2026 Apertura crown. The victory ends a remarkable run for the Valparaiso club, which had won eight straight titles and was denied a ninth in a series that came right down to the wire.
The two sides traded quarters throughout Los Leones took the second and fourth, Sportiva Italiana the first and third before the hosts pulled away in the closing period, outscoring their opponents 26-31 wait, actually let me restate: Los Leones closed on a 26-point fourth quarter to Sportiva Italiana's 31, still enough to hold on given their cushion entering the period. Randi Brown (173-G-1996, college: New Orleans) was named MVP of the deciding game, delivering a monstrous 35 points, seven rebounds and six assists on 21-of-23 shooting from the free-throw line alone. Dejah Terrell (185-F-1999, college: California, PA) added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Javiera Campos (163-PG-2002) chipped in 13 off the bench. For Sportiva Italiana, Mar'Shay Moore (173-G, college: Oregon) was simply extraordinary in defeat, pouring in 52 points on 14-of-35 shooting across all 38-plus minutes, but even that wasn't enough to save the club's bid for a ninth straight crown. The title marks the fourth in Los Leones' history, joining previous championships in 2012, 2014 and 2019.
