LNF Round 1 (Regular Season): Univ.Concepcion defeat Puerto Montt

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Puerto Montt at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Univ.Concepcion 90-43. Univ.Concepcion dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Montt's 24. Univ.Concepcion forced 33 Puerto Montt turnovers and outrebounded them 47-29 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Univ.Concepcion looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Puerto Montt's players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Barbara Cousino (178-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. American guard Sydni Tears (183, college: Talladega) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Martina Gallardo (168-2003) answered with 11 points for Puerto Montt. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.Concepcion is looking forward to face Espanol in Talca in the next round. Puerto Montt will play on the road against Frontera in Temuco and is hoping to win this game.
Another interesting game for Puente Alto which played in Vina del Mar against Gimnastico. Puente Alto had an easy win 65-54. Argentinian swingman Agustina Garcia (173-1996, agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Romina Valenzuela chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Puente Alto's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Macarena Saez (169-1995) responded with 16 points. Puente Alto will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gimnastico will play on the road against Sportiva Ita. in Valparaiso to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Santiago was also quite interesting. Sportiva Ita. played at the court of Sergio Ceppi. Sportiva Ita. managed to secure a 5-point victory 75-70 on Saturday. Josefina Cortes nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Betsy Guilarte came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds for Sergio Ceppi in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sportiva Ita. will meet at home Gimnastico in the next round. Sergio Ceppi will play against Los Leones in San Pablo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 1 Alemana beat Espanol on the road 68-52. Winless Espanol lost to undefeated Frontera on its own court 47-58.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 15 points and 5 rebounds by Josefa Catalan of Espanol.

No shocking result in a game when Alemana beat Espanol in Talca 68-52 on Saturday. Alemana dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol's 24. They outrebounded Espanol 50-39 including 16 on the offensive glass. The former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-1981) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winning side and the former international guard Fernanda Ovalle (178-2003, college: Xavier) accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Alemana P. players scored in double figures. Josefa Catalan (-2003) came up with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Argentinian Anahi Albornoz (-1998) added 8 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Espanol in the defeat. Espanol's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Alemana will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Espanol will play against Univ.Concepcion and hope to win that game.

Rather expected game when Espanol lost to Frontera in Talca 47-58 on Friday. Frontera outrebounded Espanol 40-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. The former international Josefina Viafora (185-1999) nailed 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and guard Constanza Antero (169-1998) accounted for 14 points. Josefa Catalan (-2003) came up with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Francisca Rocha (185-2003) added 11 points respectively for Espanol in the defeat. Espanol's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Frontera will meet at home Puerto Montt in the next round. Espanol will play against Univ.Concepcion and hope to win that game.
