LNF Round 5 (Regular Season): Azul y Rojo defeat Sergio Ceppi in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 5 in the LNF took place in Las Condes. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Sergio Ceppi (1-7) to sixth ranked Azul y Rojo (3-5) 77-75 on Sunday evening. Azul y Rojo made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 26 Sergio Ceppi turnovers. Valentina Castaneda (-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-1981) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Cuban center Betsy Guilarte (186-2003) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sergio Ceppi's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azul y Rojo moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Puente Alto. Sergio Ceppi at the other side keeps the seventh position with seven games lost.

Forward Darling Diaz (-2000) came up with 12 points for Quilicura in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.Concepcion have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-1 record having just one point less than leader Los Leones. Quilicura at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost.

Univ.Concepcion dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Quilicura's 26 and made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Univ.Concepcion forced 32 Quilicura turnovers and outrebounded them 44-23 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Univ.Concepcion players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Quilicura's players. Rather expected game in Valparaiso where 5th ranked Puente Alto (3-5) was defeated by third ranked Sportiva Ita. (6-2) 78-62. Sportiva Ita. held Puente Alto to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Sportiva Ita. forced 21 Puente Alto turnovers. Puente Alto was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch.
