DPB Round 9: Top-ranked Titanes win another game- November 10, 2021
There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in DPB. The round 9 was rather boring as all games ended with very predictable results. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Sabios - Cafeteros 62-66 No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Cafeteros (7-2) beat 9th ranked Sabios (2-7) in Manizales 66-62. American forward Akeem Ellis (198-90, college: Coppin St., agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import Joel Kindred (193-91, college: St.Augustine) chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Dionte Montrez with 5 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists and Camryn Nasheed scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Cafeteros. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Carrib.Storm and Motilones. Sabios lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. They share it with Piratas and Condores. Cafeteros will play against Condores (#9) in Cundinamarca in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sabios will play on the road against Cimarrones in Quibdo-Choco and hope to get back on the winning track. Condores had a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard JaShawn Brooks (190-96, college: Mars Hill) stepped up and scored 30 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Dominican power forward Brayan Martinez (203-91) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. Brooks is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Condores players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Yildon Mendoza (206-96, college: Angelo St.) with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks and Panamanian Alejandro Grant (199-93) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Condores moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Piratas and Sabios. Condores will play against higher ranked Cafeteros (#4) in Armenia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piratas will play at home against Team Cali (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Guests from Quibdo-Choco outscored Bucaros 91-59. Cimarrones forced 25 Bucaros turnovers. Strangely Bucaros outrebounded Cimarrones 53-39 including 19 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Bucaros' players. American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-89, college: FIU) stepped up and scored 29 points and 4 assists for the winners and international guard Romario Roque (180-98) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. Belardo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Cimarrones players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Marquis Salmon (203-94, college: Texas Southern) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import power forward DeMarco Owens (203-96, college: Montevallo) scored 8 points and 14 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cimarrones. Newly promoted Cimarrones maintains fifth place with 6-2 record. Bucaros at the other side keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Corsarios. Cimarrones will play against Sabios (#8) in Manizales in the next round. Bucaros will play at home against Corsarios and it may be a tough game between close rivals. American forward Miles Bowman Jr (201-93, college: High Point, agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and Dominican center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cafeteros and Carrib.Storm. Tigrillos at the other side keep the sixth position with three games lost. Motilones will play against league's leader Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tigrillos will play at home against the league's second-placed Storm (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track. This time they beat sixth ranked Team Cali (5-4) 75-67. Titanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for Panamanian Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: Southern Miss) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Argentinian forward Selem Safar (191-87) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Titanes players scored in double figures. Dominican power forward Jeromy Rodriguez (201-96, college: ETSU) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds and American guard Lagerald Vick (196-97, college: Kansas) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Team Cali. Titanes have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-1 record. Team Cali at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Titanes are looking forward to face Motilones (#3) in Cucuta in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Team Cali will play on the road against Piratas (#10) in Bogota and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident. International forward Luis Almanza (196-91) stepped up and scored 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Argentinian swingman Federico Mariani (190-92) chipped in 11 points. Storm's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was naturalized Venezuelan forward Yorbis Altamar (195-99) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and American point guard Ryan Roland (178, college: LeMoyne) scored 14 points. Storm moved-up to second place, which they share with Cafeteros and Motilones. Corsarios lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. They share it with Bucaros. Storm will play against Tigrillos (#6) in Medellin in the next round.
