LPB Round 7: Titanes defeat Storm in the game between Top 4 teams- May 6, 2022

Cafeteros - Team Cali 88-78 No shocking result in a game when third ranked Cafeteros (4-2) beat 5th ranked Team Cali (3-4) in Armenia 88-78. Cafeteros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Team Cali's 30. They outrebounded Team Cali 50-35 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international Alvaro Pena (197-1995, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Gerald Williams (190-1991, college: La Sierra) helped adding 19 points and 6 assists. Four Cafeteros players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Jorge Salazar (178-1993) responded with 18 points and the former international guard Yildon Mendoza (206-1996, college: Angelo St.) scored 18 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cafeteros moved-up to second place, which they share with Bucaros. Team Cali at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Carrib.Storm. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to third ranked Bucaros (4-2) 78-70. Bucaros made 26-of-31 charity shots (83.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for the former international guard Romario Roque (180-1998) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Shawn Stith (203-1999, college: CSUB) helped adding 13 points and 12 rebounds. Four Bucaros players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Andres Carmona (195-1997) responded with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and center Yeison Toro (200-2001) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaros moved-up to second place, which they share with Cafeteros. Tigrillos lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. Leader Titanes had an easy win 100-68. Titanes made 19-of-19 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Titanes outrebounded Storm 44-32 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 6 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Venezuelan swingman Jesus Medina (188-1994) contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Titanes players scored in double figures. Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) answered with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Venezuelan swingman Kevin Nino (195-1991) added 16 points in the effort for Storm. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Titanes have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 6-0 record. Storm at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Team Cali. Team Cali had a 23-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Team Cali brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard John Merchant (187-1989, college: Dowling) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Hayner Montano (190-1997) helped adding 18 points and 6 rebounds. Team Cali's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Venezuelan swingman Kevin Nino (195-1991) responded with 26 points and Spanish-Dominican center Jhonatan Araujo (208-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Team Cali and five Storm players scored in double figures. Team Cali moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Carrib.Storm.
