Team Cali - Tigrillos 72-73 The most exciting game of round 9 in the LPB took place in Cali. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Team Cali (4-5) to seventh ranked Tigrillos (1-9) 73-72 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Team Cali. The best player for the winners was forward Andres Carmona (195-1997) who scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international power forward Santiago Serna (203-2001) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Tigrillos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard John Merchant (187-1989, college: Dowling) who recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and international forward Leyder Moreno (195-2000) added 9 points respectively. Team Cali's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Tigrillos maintains seventh place with 1-9 record. Team Cali at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Corsarios. Third ranked Bucaros faced second-best Cafeteros. Host Bucaros (5-3) defeated guests from Armenia (5-4) 83-69. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Bucaros made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Cafeteros' players. It was a good game for American-Nigerian guard Austen Awosika (190-1998, college: CS Fullerton, agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international power forward Beykar Agualimpia (204-1988) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The former international Alvaro Pena (197-1995, agency: BIG) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 17 rebounds and American Jaelyn Johnson-Coston (198-1993, college: FMU) added 21 points in the effort for Cafeteros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cafeteros' coach let to play twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaros moved-up to second place. Cafeteros at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. Corsarios dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Center Jhon Hernandez (208-1984) stepped up and scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and Venezuelan Nelson Palacios (192-1992) chipped in 21 points. Five Corsarios players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Patrick McGlynn (188-1992, college: URI) with 19 points and 7 assists and Venezuelan swingman Kevin Nino (195-1991) scored 15 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Corsarios moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Team Cali. Storm lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. This time they crushed 7th ranked Tigrillos (1-9) 83-59 in Medellin. Titanes dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Tigrillos' 28. Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) stepped up and scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Panamanian forward Michael Hicks (196-1976, college: TAMUCC) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Titanes players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Santiago Serna (203-2001) with 13 points and 7 rebounds and the former international point guard Octavio Munoz (179-2001) scored 16 points. Tigrillos' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Titanes (9-0) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 9 victories in a row. Loser Tigrillos stay at the bottom position with nine games lost.
