Liga WPlay Round 1: Team Cali keep a leadership position

The Regular Season in Liga WPlay just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Team Cali defeated Cimarrones at home 59-51. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican forward Jeromy Rodriguez (201-1996, college: ETSU) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 5 rebounds. Chilean guard Franco Morales (179) contributed with 5 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Team Cali's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Akeem Ellis (196-1990, college: Coppin St., agency: BIG) answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds for Cimarrones.
Condores recorded a loss in Manizales. Visitors were rolled over by Sabios 81-61. Center Ivan Villamoros (197-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Mitchell Kirsch chipped in 21 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side American Michael Ramey (194-1993, college: Southern Miss) responded with 21 points. Condores' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win.
A very close game took place in Cali between Team Cali and Cimarrones. Team Cali got a very close home victory over Cimarrones. Team Cali managed to escape with a 3-point win 57-54 on Tuesday evening. Jeromy Rodriguez nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. Team Cali's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Lysander Bracey came up with 17 points for Cimarrones in the defeat.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Winless Tigrillos lost to undefeated Titanes on the road 52-97. Titanes destroyed Tigrillos on its own court 89-50. Condores managed to outperform Sabios in Cundinamarca 73-67.

Titanes - Tigrillos 97-52

There was a small surprise when Titanes crushed Tigrillos in Barranquilla 97-52 on Saturday. Titanes dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Tigrillos' 24. Titanes forced 21 Tigrillos turnovers and had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Titanes made 7 blocks. The former international Tonny Trocha-Morelos (208-1994, college: Texas A&M) nailed 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side and Argentinian guard Selem Safar (191-1987) accounted for 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Titanes players scored in double figures. Point guard Juan Salcedo (176-2003) came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds and center Samuel Villa (190-2004) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Tigrillos in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

There was a minor upset when Tigrillos were smashed by Titanes in Barranquilla 89-50 on Sunday. Titanes forced 28 Tigrillos turnovers. Dominican-Puerto Rican Jonathan Rodriguez (196-1987, college: Campbell) nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Argentinian guard Selem Safar (191-1987) accounted for 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Argentinian Patricio Pinero (195-1995) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and Luis Blandon (200-1988) added 7 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Tigrillos in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Swingman Zecaree Veiga (193-1998, college: Daemen) nailed 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Michael Ramey (194-1993, college: Southern Miss) accounted for 17 points. Ramey is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Mitchell Kirsch (193-1998, college: Babson) came up with 21 points and point guard Nathan Bower-Malone (178-1997, college: Mt.Union) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Sabios in the defeat.
