Seventh-ranked Corsarios (7-16) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Bucaros (16-8) in Cartagena on Thursday. The visitors from Bucaramanga managed to secure only three-point victory 65-62. However their fans expected easier game. Bucaros dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Corsarios' 26. They outrebounded Corsarios 49-33 including a 41-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American power forward Gani Lawal (206-1988, college: Georgia Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. The former international center Cristian Arboleda (205-1992) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Bucaros' coach Jordan Barrios used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Argentinian point guard Nicolas Paletta (179-1987) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Bucaros moved-up to second place, which they share with Titanes and Motilones. Corsarios lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 16 games lost. International power forward Sebastian Valencia (200-1997) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for Bucaros. Bucaros' coach Jordan Barrios rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Corsarios moved-up to sixth place. Bucaros at the other side dropped to the second position with eight games lost. They share it with Titanes and Motilones. Corsarios will play against higher ranked Motilones (#4) in Cucuta in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bucaros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Titanes in Barranquilla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game was played in Bogota where host Piratas (#8) won against 5th ranked Toros Del Valle with 16-point difference 105-89 on Sunday evening. Jeremy Smith stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. The best for the losing side was Franco Morales with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Toros' coach tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Piratas maintains eighth place with 7-19 record. Loser Toros keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost.
