LPB Round 1 of Regular Season

The Regular Season in LBP just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of league's leader Storm against Motilones 78-69 was the most important game of the last round. Motilones dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 24. Motilones forced 21 Carrib.Storm turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Motilones made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Bernardo Polanco (189-1994) who helped to win the game recording 23 points. American forward Camron Donatlan (190-1999, college: UWG) contributed with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American guard Matthew Butler (188-1995, college: UT Martin) answered with 28 points and 5 rebounds for Carrib.Storm. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Swiss-Argentinian center Juan De La Fuente (195-2000) stepped up and scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Matthew Butler chipped in 16 points. At the losing side American center Sal Nuhu (203-1995, college: Portland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Motilones' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

Toros' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Cimarrones were beaten by Toros Del Valle on the road 80-71. Paisas destroyed Sabios on its own court 82-51. Sabios managed to outperform Paisas in Manizales 80-72.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 29 points and 7 assists by Walyn Napper of Sabios.



Toros Del Valle - Cimarrones 91-95

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Toros in Cali on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Cimarrones 95-91. American guard Delano Spencer (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) nailed 30 points and 9 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Devon Baulkman (195-1991, college: Tennessee) accounted for 23 points and 6 rebounds. The former international swingman Cristian Solis (-2001) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Leonardo Salazar (178-1993) added 22 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Toros Del Valle in the defeat. Four Cimarrones and five Toros Del Valle players scored in double figures. Toros' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.

There was a small surprise when Toros beat Cimarrones in Cali 80-71 on Saturday. Toros Del Valle dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cimarrones' 32. American power forward Eden Ewing (204-1997, college: Texas Southern) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and the former international swingman Cristian Solis (-2001) accounted for 26 points and 7 rebounds. American swingman Devon Baulkman (195-1991, college: Tennessee) came up with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Croatian center Josip Mikulic (215-1993, college: Fairfield, agency: Interperformances) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Cimarrones in the defeat.

Rather expected game when Sabios were smashed by Paisas in Medellin 82-51 on Saturday. Paisas outrebounded Sabios 52-32 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Brandon Weatherspoon (193, college: FAU) nailed 25 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Cristian Arboleda (205-1992) accounted for 3 points and 16 rebounds. Four Paisas players scored in double figures. American point guard Walyn Napper (185-2000, college: Longwood) came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Greg Heckstall (202-1996, college: Hampton) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Sabios in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

There was a small surprise when Sabios won against Paisas in Medellin 80-72 on Sunday. American point guard Walyn Napper (185-2000, college: Longwood) nailed 29 points and 7 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Greg Heckstall (202-1996, college: Hampton) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds. Nicaraguan forward Josmel Martinez (198-1999, college: Broward CC) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and forward Yustin Llerena (195-2002) added 17 points respectively for Paisas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
