LBP Round 2 of Regular Season

LBP is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 2 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of league's leader Storm against Sabios 85-68 was the most important game of the last round. Sabios made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Venezuelan swingman Kevin Nino (195-1991) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Venezuelan Carlos Fulda (186-2002) contributed with 15 points and 4 steals for the winners. The former international forward Michael Jackson (198-1987) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Carrib.Storm. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Storm will play next round against strong Paisas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sabios will try to continue on its current victory against Carrib.Storm in San Andres Island.
Important game to mention about took place in Villavicencio. Caimanes saved a 3-point victory at home edging Motilones 73-70 on Wednesday evening. American Tirrell Brown (198-1993, college: OBU) had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Luis Bethelmy chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Caimanes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Dominican Rey Abad (210-2002, agency: Sport Avenir) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Manizales was also quite interesting. Toros played at the court of Sabios. Toros defeated Sabios 84-70 on Tuesday. Terry Armstrong notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Toros' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 27 points and 4 steals by Carlos Fulda did not help to save the game for Sabios. Toros will meet at home Cimarrones in the next round where they are favorite. Sabios will play against Carrib.Storm and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 2 winless Motilones were beaten by Caimanes on the road 78-65. Carrib.Storm won against Cimarrones on its own court 105-95.
The most impressive performance of 2nd round was 29 points and 25 rebounds by Yovany Del Rosario of Cimarrones.



Caimanes - Motilones 78-65

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Caimanes' home victory over Motilones in Villavicencio 78-65 on Thursday. Venezuelan forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American Tirrell Brown (198-1993, college: OBU) supported him with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Even 15 points and 5 rebounds by Chilean point guard Franco Morales (181-1992) did not help to save the game for Motilones. Venezuelan forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) added 18 points for the guests. Four Motilones players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Carrib.Storm - Cimarrones 105-95

Very expected game when Cimarrones lost to Storm in San Andres Island 95-105 on Tuesday. Carrib.Storm dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Cimarrones' 44. Carrib.Storm forced 20 Cimarrones turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Carrib.Storm made 8 blocks. The former international forward Romario Roque (180-1998) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and supported him with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Storm's coach used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 29 points and 25 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by American guard Terry Armstrong (200-2000, college: Arizona) did not help to save the game for Cimarrones. Dominican guard Carlos Carela (185-2000) added 17 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for the guests. Five Carrib.Storm and four Cimarrones players scored in double figures. Storm will meet Sabios in the next round. Cimarrones will play against Toros Del Valle in Cali and hope to win that game.
