Once upon a time there were two teams, two very different teams but they had one goal in common: to win.
The team that only lost one game, Coopenae ARBA San Ramon; and the team that quietly improved itself the most, Super Cable Grecia. Some people were surprised that Super Cable Grecia got a spot in the Finals, but I guess they did not go to any other of their games. Joseph Vegerano (183-G-90), recruited by Super Cable Grecia, along with Georgio Milligan (187-PG, college: Franklin & Marshall) and Dijon Farr (201-G-91, college: Ark.-Fort Smith), recruited by San Ramon when the previous Tournament started; changed the history of the West side of the Costa Rican Basketball League. Without in any way underrating the work of our local players of course, game after game during the 'Torneo de Clausura' we watched Andres Umana (204-C-83), Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.), Sebastian Lacayo (203-C-86, college: Coker), Jaytheiv Davis (184-G-85), Ernie Forester and every single persons that belong to these two teams, and their warrior-like approach on the court.
According to Joseph Vegerano, during the first quarter of the last game even though Super Cable Grecia was losing they had a good rhythm. Unfortunately, Amir Alvarado (198-F-84, college: Marshalltown CC) got hurt which impacted their second quarter, that was when Coopenae ARBA San Ramon accomplished the 17 points difference and from that moment on it was too difficult to narrow the gap. Joseph also said that Coopenae ARBA San Ramon's defense was too good and San Ramon deserved to win, nonetheless Grecia's fans and their support are unbelievable.
Georgio Milligan stated: "t was a great team win. Something that has made us successful the whole season is our whole team playing well. And I'm glad to finish the season undefeated at home because we have the best fans!'
The shows and the fans at both of the venues were amazing. Joseph Vegerano, Georgio Milligan and Dijon Farr were always mentioned as the highest scorers, but they all won something better: the love, support and respect of the 'ticos' and 'ticas'. Thanks to their easy going personalities and humbleness, they are (yes, present tense) a perfect match with the Costa Rican 'pura vida' way of living. Unfortunately joseph Vegerano won't be coming back in October because he already has a new contract in Puerto Rico, but his social media accounts are full of messages wishing him the best of luck, and he even got an open letter that says:
'"if there is something that creates a positive impact on our children and youth, is the sport activities that motivate them to imitate their heroes and in this case, you are of those heroes. One of the heroes that lead Grecia to achieve great goals this season."
Words of wisdom, this season was full of new hopes so congratulations to both teams, job well done.
