Escazu Escoba add Recopa Zepol Muscular crown to their growing trophy cabinet

Escazu Escoba opened the 2026 Liga Superior de Baloncesto (LSB) Davivienda season in style by capturing the Recopa Zepol Muscular title, defeating Seminario E.L. in the headline match of the Pre Season Tournament Medisport at the Liceo de Costa Rica on Saturday, March 28. The Recopa — which pits the previous season's two finalists against each other — served as the curtain-raiser for the 2026 LSB campaign and was the marquee attraction of a packed four-game opening day that brought all eight league teams together under one roof.
For Escazu, the trophy adds to the momentum built during a remarkable 2025 season in which they claimed the national championship in the most dramatic fashion imaginable. In last year's finals, Escazu edged out Colegio de Abogados-Seminario E.L. 71-70 in a heart-stopping Game 5 decider, rallying from behind with a 23-point fourth quarter to snatch the one-point victory and deny their rivals a second consecutive title. The Recopa victory served as a statement that the reigning champions intend to remain the team to beat in Costa Rican basketball. Escazu are widely considered one of the two most important clubs in the country alongside ARBA San Ramon, and their roster features several members of the Costa Rican national team. The opening day at the Liceo de Costa Rica drew strong support, with general admission set at ₡5,000 and free entry for children wearing their academy jerseys — part of the LSB's ongoing push to grow basketball at the grassroots level. The first two games of the day were streamed on LSB's official social media channels, while the final two matches — including the Recopa — were broadcast on TD Más. The 2026 LSB season features eight teams: Escazú Escoba, Colegio de Abogados-Seminario E.L., ARBA San Ramón, Grecia, Metrópoli Cartago, Puntarenas, Roswell and AAB Jaguars. The regular season will see all teams play home and away before the top eight advance to a playoff bracket culminating in a best-of-three finals series.
