2029 FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers: Dominica Holds Off Bermuda in Group Phase Finale- July 13, 2026
POSTED BY: Eurobasket News
Bermuda never got a sniff of the lead in this one, and Dominica made sure it stayed that way, controlling the game from the opening tip and holding on for a 72-65 win at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on July 12, 2026. Bermuda had its best look at a foothold early in the third quarter, when Cameron Basden (185-G-2006)'s three-pointer which would have given Bermuda its first lead of the night rimmed out with Dominica up just one, but Dominica tightened up defensively from there and never let the door open again.
Karim Daniel (201-C-2008) anchored the win with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, adding three steals and three blocks without a single turnover. Kijuan Thomas (185-G-1994) added 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three, and Ethan Boland (196-F-1996) chipped in 11 points and a team-best six assists. Adam McDonald (188-G-2003) did what he could for Bermuda with a game-high 23 points, but it capped a winless stretch for Bermuda in this window, following earlier losses to Antigua and Barbuda, Turks and Caicos and Guyana. With group play now finished in Georgetown, Barbados (4-0) and Antigua and Barbuda (3-1) have advanced to the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round as their respective group winners, joining Costa Rica, already through via the Central American Pre-Qualifiers, and Cuba, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Venezuela, who qualify via their First Round exits from the FIBA World Cup 2027 American Qualifiers. A South American representative has yet to be determined. |
