The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Importadora (3-1) in Ambato on Thursday night. Hosts were rolled over by Punto Rojo (3-1) 61-35. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Importadora. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Rincon dC's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Sacramento (1-3) 70-43. Rodrigo Roldan (-98) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and Roy Sanchez chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Power forward Juan Bolanos (-97) responded with 4 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rincon dC left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with Santa Maria and Sacramento. Rincon dC will play against league's leader Punto Rojo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Everything could happen in Ambato at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Caballeros and 6th ranked Santa Maria had identical 1-2 record. This time Caballeros used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from 71-55. Caballeros outrebounded Santa Maria 49-33 including a 38-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international power forward Carlos Delgado (202-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and forward Mairon Cuero (190-89) chipped in 9 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Caballeros players scored in double figures. Power forward Mateo Egas (-2) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and Andres Conchambay (190-87) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caballeros maintains fourth place with 2-2 record. Santa Maria at the other side dropped to the bottom position with three games lost. They share it with Rincon dC and Sacramento. Caballeros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Maria will play at home against the league's second-placed Piratas (#2) to get more than just one victory in their record.
